I get it, everyone is upset that Trump won (including myself). But the voters are not solely to blame here.

Democrats put forward a candidate who lost to fascism. What does that say about your policies, your messaging, how the voters feel about you when you tell them "You have to vote for me because I'm not the other guy!"

Y'all need to accept that 1. The Democrats can grasp defeat from the jaws of victory like no one else, and 2. The American people want change, they want progress, they have had enough of the status quo system that isn't working for them anymore.

They spent the last four years living under Biden, and despite all the screeching about how well the economy was doing, Americans don't feel it. And instead of addressing that, or doing anything about it, Biden and the Democrat establishment would just point the finger at Republicans and say, "No, no, they're worse, trust us, they're worse, they're worse."

They've spent a year telling Americans, despite everything they're seeing and hearing from Palestine, that Israel needs this unconditional support, while the world votes to hold Israel accountable and the US vetos it, under a Democrat administration. Multiple times, while refusing to let any Palestinians on stage at the DNC to speak, but parading Republican after Republican because they finished licking Trump's ass and decided to give Kamala's a go. Arab and Muslim Americans organized a protest vote, over 100,000 strong in Michigan alone (which she's projected to lose, btw), and the Democrats sent Bill Clinton to lecture them on how Israel is only doing what's necessary to defend themselves.

So we've had four years of milquetoast progress at best from a candidate the Democrat's constituency already didn't like. He dropped out but didn't leave enough time for a new primary, so the Democrat Party pushed Kamala on us, and then had her run on a centrist, return-to-the-status-quo platform, while refusing to take any meaningful stand on Palestine, with their biggest policy being, "Hey, you have to vote for us because we're not fascist."

If the American people, people in general, don't feel like they're being represented, why would the feel like voting? This is a failure on the Democrats, 100%, for running platform policies and candidates that don't drive people to the polls. Say what you want about Trump, and there's plenty to say about the absolute piece of shit of a human being he is.

But he makes his voters feel listened to and heard, and Democrats may consider it regression, but Republicans get their policies done, and they show progress to their constituents. Democrats get nothing done, usually due to Republican fuckery, but the Republicans don't face similar fuckery, so the average voter doesn't care, they just see one wide getting their agenda accomplished and the other not.

So now I pose this question to you, and I'm genuinely asking, this isn't an "I gotcha, I am so smart!"

If a person doesn't feel represented by their government regardless of who's in power, and your life doesn't drastically improve under either candidate, well... What difference does it make which form of government is fucking you over?

And if they weren't willing to choose the least bad option, I think that says more about the least bad option than it does about the worst option.

Or maybe, like they normally do, the Democrats failed to rally their base to vote, or didn't give them enough incentive to get out and vote.

Biden had 4 years to make meaningful progress for the American people, and whether or not he did is irrelevant because Americans don't feel better off than 4 years ago. Democrats spent the last year screaming about the economy doing amazing, while ignoring all of the polls showing Americans don't feel that way.

Democrats spent the last year sending weapons shipment after weapons shipment to Israel to bomb Palestinian children, despite polls showing the majority of Americans wanted contingencies on the shipments. And the Democrats instead lectured their constituents about how what they're seeing and hearing isn't actually what it is, and it'll be worse with the other guy!

Democrats spent the last 4 years doing nothing but try to return to the same status quo that isn't working for the average American anymore. Biden's hubris took the decision out of the people's hands, and we were given a candidate we didn't choose and told to shut up and like it because "fAsCiSm."

Well, congratulations Democrat Party, we fell to fascism because that's obviously a better alternative than actually putting forward progressive policies. And whether you like to hear it or not, the Republican voter supporting this fascist movement is doing so because they want change in this country too.

Only difference being, the Republicans are actually "progressing" their party along like their constituents want. Maybe the Democrats should try listening to their constituents for once and, idk, see if that maybe works in their favor for once?

Harris played it safe and it looks like she's going to lose anyway, so maybe she should've considered more progressive ideas. Or maybe listened to her constituents instead of doing what Democrats always fucking do, and playing off the "you have to vote for us because we're not them."

But no, let's blame the voters for a candidate failing to win them over.

If Trump wins, there is no one to blame but Harris and the Democrats, full stop. If we fall to fascism, which I hope we don't (I already begrudgingly voted Harris this morning), I will blame no one but the Democrat Party.

They chose to ignore the Muslim/Arab voices protesting this past year, they chose to run on a moderate presidential platform, and they refuse to denounce a genocide, or even do anything about it (Biden is still president, and has continued to do nothing but send Netanyahu whatever he wants).

You all want Muslim/Arab voters to vote for Harris to prevent fascism, well, they wanted you all to take their wants seriously, and Biden/Harris haven't.

So if they lose, it's on the Democrat party, not anyone else.

Only thing I'll disagree with you here is the machinist comment. My dad's been a machinist for like 45 years now, same industry, same building.

He is constantly complaining to me that they can't find machinists, or even people who are willing to learn. I have zero machining experience, and he was trying to get me hired at one point, that's how desperate they were getting.

And it's not a bad company, to be clear, they're a government contractor, have very good benefits, competitive pay (he's even complained they've given guys with a year's experience multi-dollar raises to keep them), etc.

According to him, if you have mechanical aptitude and are willing to learn all of the intricacies of machining, you can and will make a decent salary for the rest of your life so long as you're willing to work.

Yep, the Democrats didn't even allow a Palestinian to speak at the DNC, but they had how many Republican politicians come on stage?

The Democrats have ignored the Muslim/Arab community almost entirely this election cycle, and are now freaking out because their Status-Quo policy decisions might have cost them the election.

And when you point this out on Lemmy, you're screamed at for being a Trump supporter and wanting Gaza leveled. No, we just wanted our party leadership to reflect the wants of the majority of their constituents for once.

I was told to grow up the other day for simply pointing out why Muslim/Arab voters may be struggling internally with voting for Harris. Just, y'know, applying empathy and putting myself into someone's shoes who has way more involved in that than I do.

When I pointed out that this is why Democrats lose voters (they're condescending and dismissive to their own party because their issues/concerns aren't "convenient" right now) I'm screamed at for supporting Trump and how much worse it would be.

100,000 voters cast protest votes during the primaries in just Michigan alone over the Palestinian genocide, it's clearly an important issue to your constituents and they deserve to be treated with respect. Not condescension and insults, as if they can't possibly comprehend their choices here.

Third comma? It's a lot cheaper to bribe a US politician than that. Many will vote in your favor for a few thousand dollars in campaign contributions.

There used to be a Firehouse literally 7 minutes from where I live, but it closed a few years ago. :( That used to be my go-to sandwich place, now I've settled for Jersey Mike's (which I expect to start enshittifying now that some holding company or whoever bought them).

Once that happens, I'll just go back to ordering subs from Italian places. You pay $20 for a 16"-18" sub, sure, but you at least get what feels like $20 worth of food.

It's been a while since I had it, so you may be right. Though, I do remember they were very specific it would only meet treason if it resulted in an intelligence officers death, but I don't remember under what Act or law they were interpreting from.

Yeah, he voices Gus and Jimmy Jr, just to name two off the top of my head, as well as Bob.

My dog has to smell my breath after I eat/drink something. If I'm eating a sandwich, he'll watch the whole time, and when I'm done, he'll hop up and start sniffing/licking for crumbs.

Then he'll stand on my lap, and put his nose up to my face, sniffing and kinda wagging his tail. I'll open my mouth wide, and start exhaling, and he'll eagerly start sniffing riiiiiiiiiight up against my mouth, wagging and kinda shifting his weight on his front legs. And if you don't listen closely enough to his sniffing...

... He'll sneeze in your mouth. 😂 He makes my friends do it too, and I do warn them about keeping their mouth open too long.

Beyond that, the only other weird thing he does (besides his crazy yoga poses he does in blankets on the couch) is lick the floor. If I'm cooking, he's standing by the stove, ready to lunge at anything that falls to the floor. But when I'm done cooking, he'll basically walk the entire kitchen floor, focusing primarily by the sink and stove, licking every speck of oil and crumb he can find. You'd think I never feed him based on how he acts towards food, but here we are. 😂

He nabbed some chili seeds off the floor one night before I could get them, and I asked him how they tasted while he's walking around the kitchen, licking his chops over and over. Moved to his water bowl, drank a good chunk of that, moved to the living room, laid down there for a bit... All the while, licking his chops, trying to get the spicy to go away. And then he came back for more 😂

I remember when I had my clearance, we were told anything we worked on was classified for a minimum of like 75 years, unless it was declassified earlier. I remember because they told is if we were 18, we could potentially legally talk about our work at the age of 93, assuming the classification wasn't extended.

Anyway, part of that briefing was the outlining of consequences should we leak any classified information. We were told if the information we leaked resulted in the death of an intelligence officer anywhere in the world, we could and likely would be tried for treason. And the punishment for treason during a time of war (Global War on Terror, amiright) could be death.

So... He'll be charged with treason like any of us plebs would have been, right? Right?!

No, you're trying to play it off as the other commenter pointed out, as if it's just kids will be kids.

You don't accidentally stab someone to death. This wasn't a "fuck up," if you read the article, or even what I wrote in the comment above, you'd see that the kid followed the victim around after they had already tried to disengage from the guy with the knife.

Knife guy sought them out, escalated the situation despite the victim and his group trying to get knife guy to leave them alone, and then stabbed him in the chest.

Where's the accident in that?

We're not, the victim lost everything: their future, their life, moments with family, etc. And you're making it sound like, "Well, yeah, but he just made a mistake."

You don't stab someone to death by mistake, it isn't a "fuck up." Killing someone via stabbing is an aggressive, personal, close quarters kind of death. You can't stab someone to death "accidentally," and during the act, did he ever stop? While the victim was likely shouting in pain or pleading or trying to get away, did the kid stop his "fuck up"?

No. He knew exactly what he was doing, and there's no rehabilitating that, especially if it occurred after a brief conversation in public. He forfeited his right to his life as soon as he took his victim's, when he chose to willfully stab a man to death.

Edit: Literally the first sentence details how the two boys had the four-minute conversation with the victim, followed the victim around Birmingham's city centre, and then stabbed him to death despite the victim being a complete stranger.

And neither boy showed any remorse or emotion during their sentencing. The one who actually stabbed the victim tries to claim he feared for his safety, and was "just trying to scare the boy." Guess that's why he needed to plunge a large knife into the kid's chest when, as the judge pointed out, all they did was try to get Mr. "Just Fucked Up" to leave them alone.
