Homeowners of lemmy who bought in 2020-21, how are you feeling today about your purchase?
  • Bought in 2019 at 3.75, refinanced to 2.5 in... 2020 or 2021.

It was supposed to be a 3 or 5 year home. Now, we can't afford to sell it. It's small, which was great at the time, but we need more space now. But there's no room on the lot to add on.

The current plan is to build a shed and move my office into it if we need that room for anything.

  • Out of curiosity, how do you manage to follow so many feeds? I've been using RSS for probably 20 years now, and feel like I easily get overwhelmed when I get over a dozen feeds or so.

  • Try Feedly. As best I can tell, it's the only spiritual successor to Google Reader from years ago (I'm still salty Google killed it). It's about the only worthwhile non-self-hosted RSS reader online. Being online, it will sync between devices.

If you're a little more technically inclined, you could also look into self-hosting your own feed reader. That's beyond my abilities, so I don't know where to point you for that.

What irritates you the most with your own language?
  • Oh, it's worse than that.

    80 is basically four-twenties. 17, 18, and 19 are basically ten-seven, ten-eight, and ten-9. Which makes 97, 98, and 99 four-twenties-ten-seven, four-twenties-ten-eight, and four-twenties-ten-nine.

  • No WAN Show this week. The streak has ended.

"Heads up, there won’t be a WAN Show this week. Instead, we will continue to focus on addressing issues raised both internally and by the community during our production break. We appreciate you all for your patience."

Linus was joking around on Reddit about the situation at around the same time the apology video was posted
  • The way I see it, it's not something that should be joked about, at least not yet. I basically agree with SnazzyLab's take. This is all immensely disappointing, and absolutely needs addressing and fixing. And it will take time. But joking around/laughing about it is in poor taste. Right now, it's time for looking at what's broken and improving it. Imagine someone hits you with their car. They've given you their insurance info, but then they say, "Lol, but that was some pretty sweet driving, wasn't it?" I'm not saying he needs to be apologizing 24/7 on repeat, just that he needs to put some thought into how what he says will be received. Or maybe even just not say anything. There's nothing wrong with saying, "We're going to address this stuff" (which they have a video about) and then quietly working on things.
