  • It's a weird perspective. Probably due to taking the picture on a small stepstool with a wide angle lens. That gives you the 'height' and then cropping the sides would not give your brain the context clues.

  • That's pretty much how I do it. The interstates in the US make it simple to get to just about any major city, and friends might boggle a bit, but they can tell you what the minor highway/street you need to look for and give you a landmark.

...It really drives home how the old horror movies weren't unrealistic in folks getting lost randomly.

  • The first and second one just seem wrong somehow. Voting is definitely supposed to be anonymous. Why would (aside from stupidity) would that sheriff recently make the statement about noting who has democrat signs in their yards if they could just find out everyone who voted democrat?

  • Different in some ways? Sure, maybe, but go watch the videos of people at the Beatles concerts, or Michael Jackson concerts, etc. etc. They look like they're losing their minds just while he is standing on stage looking around before the performance. Humans have incredibly sick relationships to any 'star.' Look at athletes and their incredible influence on kids. Holy hell, for a recent one just look at taylor swift and getting people to register to vote.

  • Forming a band? Tons. You couldn't drive down a neighborhood block without hearing someone banging on drums in a garage, or an amp pealing its notes out from an open window.

I would bet the amount of 'bands' that formed and the amount of kids that post videos to become influencers have a pretty similar number.

  • I wish that the criminal laws against violating someone's civil rights would get applied in these situations. The mere potential of a (way) post hoc punishment from a civil trial is too small punishment for first amendment violations. Those laws exist to give teeth against police officers violating rights (even if they're rarely used), and should be used to go after the politicians who direct these actions. In order to not punish poor Greta who just works at the office handling these though, they should be automatically applied to the highest level that signed off on it, and whoever wrote the policy/procedure that is carried out. That will create a daisy chain effect where each person asks their supervisor for approval, and will eventually snowball desantis right onto his face (or desk).

  • While you're giving good advice, remember to tell these poor folks in the path that staying in the house is not the safest option. They need to be outside the house, or any other form of potential collapse or collateral damage such as cars, sheds, trees, etc. They need to huddle about 15 feet away from any of those things, keeping the object of choice between them and the wind.

If an American flag is nearby, grab it and wrap yourself and your family in it, praying to god with all your might so he will protect you. My aunt Mildred had to do that in Helene, and god saved her by wrapping his holy hands over her family.

  • I, sadly, call bullshit. The last time the democrats were actually good at pushing back forcefully with campaign messaging was when I was still in diapers. Now add in that democratic points actually need a modicum of thought put into them to accept them, while republican points are like grade school insults and comebacks that just 'sound good,' and I doubt we'll get big gains from republican-precipitated disasters.

Edit: Seriously... think about how many people believed that photo of trump wading through floodwaters. And how many others don't even care about obviously fake images like that, choosing to have the idea that such things are normal and okay.

  • Bah, bullshit. Businesses are the oppressors. Morning people are just the victims who get whipped less.

Meanwhile, night fucks folks are the cool kid clique not allowing anything fun to happen until the rest of humanity is struggling to not die.
