What is the most impressive music video you've ever seen?
  • Johnny Cash’s cover of Hurt by NiN

The video is beautiful, but the story, and timeline of cash’s later life, is heartbreaking.

It’s not flashy, it’s not in your face, but it evokes feelings in most people, and tells a story.

  • Wall Street Bet Big on Used-Car Loans for Years. Now a Crisis May Be Looming.
  • And then they default, and the loan holder is surprise pikachu face because who could have ever anticipated a subprime loan defaulting. Or worse who could have ever anticipated many of them doing it when the economy takes a minor downturn? It’s a gamble that they aren’t required to prepare for, and then they turn and stick their hand out for a bailout once the inevitable happens

  • From a purely scientific standpoint, when does weed use become problematic.
  • I’m in CA. Can’t get much more legal than here. I’ve had multiple try to argue me out of using weed in favor of insert prescription drugs here. The prescription ones never worked or had too many side effects and they just don’t care to hear it.

It’s definitely doc dependent, but my experience is that the “mainstream” doctors your insurance covers are generally not onboard with it. The “doctors” that gave out prescriptions for medical cards were always some dude in a tshirt, that asked like 2 questions and gave a recommendation.

  • Police union leader said woman killed by Seattle officer ‘had limited value’
  • I think you might be misinterpreting the statement, or I’m misinterpreting what you’re saying.

saying her life had “limited value” and the city should “just write a check”.

They are saying she isn’t worth thinking about to just cut a check to the family and tell them to fuck off. I’m paraphrasing, obviously. That tracks pretty well really.

  • Can we talk about how much the American healthcare system sucks?
  • I know you don't want advice. I know, but, there are meal replacements, that aren't nothing but sugar, corn and soy crap, and are much more nutritionally complete. May be worth looking into them. Huel and Soylent (sold in Target for sure) are the first that come to mind. I understand if your reply is "thanks" just wanted to throw that out there, because I feel your pain.

I have ALL kinds of GI issues. The latest GI I saw, after waiting like 2 years during covid (had one appt before lockdowns, and then had to wait), and then another like 4 months after I called to book an appointment, ran a HIDA scan, which came back as low/abnormal. His answer? Oh, well it's too close to normal to do surgery, so just take miralax and don't eat fatty foods. Gee thanks, why didn't I think of that, professionally trained guesser extortionist? When asked if there were going to be long term effects from taking a laxative, like, idk making constipation worse, his answer? IDK, maybe?

    Good luck

  • for starters people around here tend to misinterpret what you’re saying accidentally or willfully, far more than my experience with reddit previously.

Honestly, this is what has driven me away. No matter how innocuous something I say is, there are a bunch of "well, askshewly" asshats to argue an irrelevant part of your statement, or start the "whataboutism" shit. It's exhausting, and frankly, takes all the fun out of it.

That and the bots reposting reddit shit. I may as well go back to reddit. Plus Narwhal is still working....

  • if trains honk at every crossing (in the US), shouldn't cars be honking at every crosswalk?
  • That’s the thing, I live near train tracks/station. The fucking train honks incessantly. There are like 4 or 5 intersections that train crosses in pretty quick succession, plus the station, so they just lay on the horn for a good mile. No one pays attention to it. It’s like the boy that cried wolf. It totally defeats the purpose of it’s trying to alert anyone to anything. Not to mention the noise pollution it needlessly creates. Idk who decided that was a reasonable solution, instead of putting up the people gates, but fuck them. That law needs to be completely abolished imo.

  • From a purely scientific standpoint, when does weed use become problematic.
  • They don’t prescribe it here in America either.

Hell, I’ve had multiple doctors tell me to stop using it, when I say it’s the ONLY thing that has ever made me mostly migraine free. They usually pretend to say it out of concern over long term effects. It always reads as “hey I know you had daily, chronic migraines, that no prescription drug even touched, but, yeah, you need to stop doing the only thing that has ever worked. How are we going to sell you more drugs, with horrible side effects, that don’t help?”

  • [What is the best movie you watched last week?] 26 August
  • Asteroid city. Full disclosure I love pretty much every Wes Anderson movie, so it was kind of a no brainer that I’d love it. I feel like it’s more of an Anderson movie than the last few were though. It felt so much more like the royal tenenbaums or moonrise kingdom than the more recents like French dispatch did.
