Touchscreens Are Out, and Tactile Controls Are Back
  • Touchscreens are great to have, controlling Android Auto or Apple Carplay with physical buttons like you have to do in a Mazda is a nightmare.

The problem is when the touchscreen is used as a replacement for physical controls, instead of an addition. Stuff like controlling your climate control should not be exclusively controlled through the touchscreen

And don't even get me started about VWs stupid decision to put touch controls on the steering wheel. At least they backpedaled on that decision pretty quickly

  • My dream car is from the 90s and people still generally regard them as fairly reliable

I would not want to share the road with modern oversized cars while driving a car with 90s crash safety

I drive a Miata as a 2nd car for weekend fun, but it's not a real option as a daily driver if you value your life

Not to mention that it uses 8 liters of gas per 100km, whilst my daily driver averages 12wkh per 100km

  • Finding a BifL smartphone
  • The guy you answered to is actually not correct, see my reply to him. 5g can and does use the same frequencies as 4g, the upper frequency limit is just higher but those are only used in dense cities. Rural 5g installations use the same low frequencies as 4g and get better range than 5g at those frequencies

  • Finding a BifL smartphone
  • 5g exists at different frequencies, just like 4g.

The lowest 4g frequency is 410mhz, and the lowest 5g frequency is 450mhz

The range of a 5g tower can be the same or higher than a 4g tower depending on the frequency used.

I think your confusion seems to come from the existence of 5g mmWave, which is sometimes uses synonymously with 5g. But 5g mmWave towers actually make up only a small fraction of 5g installs, the majority is using the same frequency band as 4g, and when comparing 5g to 4g at the same frequency then 5g actually even has a small range advantage

  • Police say they can tell if you are too high to drive. Critics call it ‘utter nonsense’
  • Portable breathalyzers are notoriously unreliable and it's definitely possible for them to indicate zero on someone that is drunk. And also the other way around, which is why the tests always have to repeated with a stationary breathalyzer or a blood sample to be used as evidence in court.

That being said, it's still not acceptable for cops to arrest people without probable cause

  • E-Bikes Are Real Bikes—and They’re Great for Everyone
  • It's reliable and easily serviceable

Until the day any of your electronics break and you realize Bosch serialized all of their parts so you are at the mercy of getting it repaired from an authorized Bosch service center at their absolutely ridiculous prices. And once your particular motor gets it's support discontinued you are completely screwed unless someone successfully reverse engineers it

If you care about repairability then the best option is to do a DIY conversion of a regular bicycle, as there are still completely open motor controllers and BMSs available for conversions

  • The Poison in my Life
  • Yeah, this year the German government passed the law for decriminalization of weed, and it was almost blocked by our Federal Council if it weren't for thousands of community members harassing them on social media and via Fax (yes, Telefax is still used by our government 🤦)

  • M4 Mac Mini Power Button Has New Bottom Location
  • That's not true. It charges very slowly, about 12 hours to charge a completely dead battery, but it does charge

The bigger problem is that it's expensive af, and since current gen Logitech mice have months of battery life and charge in an hour with the usb cord it's really pointless.

  • Anything that has a very low power draw. You already listed one of the common examples: a clock. Due to rechargeable NiMH batteries having a high self-discharge rate you would have to replace the battery every year, whilst an Alkaline battery would last 5 to 10 years. Other common household items that are a good example would be TV remotes, smoke alarms, or smart home devices like light switches.

  • (on a side note, you seem to imply the use of non-rechargeable AA, which holy shit, if they're still a thing, must be purged, sweet jesus...who's dumb enough to waste money on em???)

You should probably educate yourself on the advantages of rechargeable and single use AA batteries before calling other people dumb for still using Alkaline batteries.

Rechargeable NiMH batteries are great for most usecases, but even the ones that are designed to have a low self-discharge rate still are much worse in that regard than Alkaline batteries. There are simply use cases where rechargeable AA batteries make no sense and you are much better off with regular Alkaline batteries.
