Is Arcanum worth playing?
  • lol like when some of us had whole paragraph long quotes, or elaborate ASCII art. I remember one guy had a nude woman in ASCII art. It was actually pretty impressive. This was back before there were apps that made them for you from images.

  • how can I prove that phones are not listening to us for ads?
  • Well, if the conditions are such that the positive would be absolutely certain to leave evidence, then the lack of said evidence is good enough. Like, I say it’s not snowing where I live. Absolutely nobody in my town sees so much as a single snowflake. Also, it’s 72° out. Haven’t I proven to a reasonable degree that it’s not snowing where I live?

  • how can I prove that phones are not listening to us for ads?
  • That’s such a widely used concept and it’s erroneous. You can’t ALWAYS prove a negative. But if you’re able to prove a mutually exclusive positive to the negative condition, then you’ve proven it. For example, proving it is daytime where I’m standing also proves it is not nighttime where I’m standing.

There are circumstances where a negative cannot be practically proven, or without an absurd amount of work. But all you really need to do is empirically demonstrate the negative is the likeliest reasonable scenario and that’s usually good enough, except to someone obstinately trying to stay with their position and therefore demands absolute unequivocal proof - which is a rarity entirely.

  • YouTube putting videos in my feed that I am unable to watch (due to not having a paid membership)
  • I mean…. By now I really don’t think anyone can genuinely be surprised by anything because it’s clear Google and other companies like them (dominating cyberspace related) are just constantly trying to become more and more insidious.

  • The retro game experts at Digital Eclipse have released a remaster of [1981's] Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
  • Well, Might & Magic had the advantage of letting you make your moves turn by turn, where’s Wizardry had that weird system where you commit each party member’s action all at once and then let ‘er rip. I always found it strange and also inconvenient.

  • Paid for MS Excel out of the goodness of my heart so now I get this popup every 2 hours...
  • Sounds like some people I’ve encountered who really don’t know shit, and have just survived on the ignorance and impressionability of others they con into paying/employing them. Then they just Google every problem they’re tasked with fixing.

  • Amazon pinches sellers: Use our costly logistics services or pay extra fee
  • They have been continually and progressively hostile toward their sellers. They want total devotion and commitment, they want their sellers to swear off any and all other venues and pledge total loyalty to Amazon - AND they continually screw them as punishment for not doing so.

Kinda sounds like a cult to me. And yes, according to Louis Rossman, the FTC is preparing to go for the jugular against them.
