  • No offense, but there's a big difference between economic determinism and physical determinism. Gramsci was writing about humans in a sociological context, not sub atomic particles and quantum mechanics. They do not contradict the other. Unless you mean to imply that particles behave like human beings for some reason.

  • wtf is super determinism too

It just means that every minute decision you make was predetermined by various material factors. I.E. the reason you make the decision you do is because your brain was in a state which was determined by various material factors. Those material factors were predetermined by other material factors so on and so forth. It's mostly used as a way to get around seemingly faster-than-light information sharing in quantum physics.

If you run a physics simulation with the exact same parameters then it should have the exact same results right? Super Determinism postulates that the universe operates in a similar way. That if you could simulate the entire universe and it started out exactly the same, then the simulated universe and the current universe would be identical.

  • So I ask her where she moved from. Turns out she moved 9 miles, from the neighboring town, and within the same county. She didn't even change zip code.

To be fair, it's a huge fucking difference being from a small town and moving to a small town. You go from being almost family with everyone you meet to being an outsider to 95% of people.

  • I used to work at a gas station. One time, a guy wanted to return some used coolant because he needed the money to fix something else about his car. I called my manager on his behalf to see what I could do. Store policy said we couldn't do anything and I was about to give him the money myself when he just started punching the little stall I was in. Screamed the most horrific profanities at me and then sped off in his truck. He comes back an hour later attempting to return something else we didn't even sell and proceeded to do the exact same thing.

Another time, an older gentlemen said he paid for his gas already when I knew that he didn't. I thought it was a hustle so I just called my manager to see what I should do. I told him the guy hadn't paid but was insisting that he did. My manager told me I probably fucked it up and just give him the gas. The camera recording showed I was right but I still got yelled at for it.

  • There already is an easy mode, it's called leveling up, summoning co-op, and getting better gear.

You're not just asking to make the game easier, you're saying you don't want to spend any time or effort to make that happen. The game is based around spending time and effort to overcome challenges. You do not want to engage with the games core mechanics and that's fine, but don't blame the game. I say this without judgment, just watch a playthrough and then explore the world with cheat engine.

  • "Why do I need an espresso machine? Just thrown some grounds in a sock, boil it, and you got coffee."

Flashlights have more maneuverability and they're significantly brighter. Trying to use your phone's flashlight outside is an exercise in futility. Plus I don't need to worry about my phone's screen breaking.

  • Something I'm not seeing here that is absolutely essential is a good flashlight.

Human beings can't do shit in the dark. Useful for power outages, dark areas, and if gets late. I end up using it more than my knife tbh.

  • If the democrats actually cared they would be jailing Republican insurrectionists and passing laws to stop it from going into effect. The fact they they aren't means the best case scenario is the dems winning and merely delaying project 2025 by 4 years.

  • Being clumsy is an trait common in people with autism, ymmv.

It's not just social information that gets mixed up but pretty much everything. I have to catch myself at least once a month but I haven't had a fall in a bit.

  • I'd say people were still on the high of Bernie and were decidedly more optimistic about the future at that point. It wasn't that long ago that Chompsky, Bernie, and other faux progressives were very well liked here.

I still remember when admins made changing the name from "chapochat" to "hexbear" a moral imperative because "We have to appeal to more people and the podcast would prevent that." Then deciding a month later that converting people is hard and no one wants to do it.

  • Yes and no. Hexbear as a political project is more or less dead. It's been that way since the first year or so. It's more or less just a club for commie shitposting now. I used to do organizing/theory on Hexbear, now I just use it for non-political posting.

Hexbear, barring some huge shift, will stay around this size for the next few years and experience a slow decline until shutdown. It is a site just past its peak experiencing a slow fall to obscurity that all things must go through eventually.

  • I support them but only as far as they're a convection oven. If you already have a small convection oven then you're more or less set.

I got a ninja foodie thing that's a pressure cooker, air fryer, oven, and 40 other things in one and 95% of my dinners use it.
