  • I agree with the sentiments of asking why they want to do those things. If they want to help/protect people, that's a good thing even if their conclusion of how to do that is wrong. Maybe can help suggest other fields they can engage in that would serve that goal without being the obvious law enforcement choices.

  • I won't say it is nothing, but it is the tiniest of breadcrumbs. Without electricity to use the water, it isn't even that really.

The issue is that now Israel will just clap their hands and go "Look, we did it, see we are the good guys!" and everyone will eat it up. It is 100% a PR stunt that will probably work for a lot of people. "Oh, the water is back on? Great, I can stop caring about Palestine for the next few years again".

  • "We got the guy with nazi tattoos or the girl with SS patches. Which one do you want to use for your photo op?"

    "Uh...got anything else?"

"Well, this guy over here has no questionable patches at all and doesn't actually have any tattoos!"

"Perfect! But uh...why is he doing a nazi salute..."

  • Funny you brought this up because I was just going back through the franchise for October.

I still really like Alien, it holds up well. The xenomorph actually still looks pretty good by modern standards, a lot of times the older monsters in these movies tend to age very poorly. The aesthetics all hold up really well.

I still can enjoy the rest of the movies in the franchise to some degree (I quite like the newer couple even though I know they are divisive) but Alien stands out in another class.

  • They 100% would be making that argument during the time period(ignoring for a minute that the US still has slavery anyway). Heck, they still do, I grew up going to a school where our teachers seriously argued that the slaves were better off as slaves, with a much higher quality of life.

A few highlights I remember were them saying "slaves were usually never beaten because that would affect their ability to work" and "it gave structure to their life". Also "most slave owners were good people who were friends with their slaves".

  • Eh. Not really. It shows everyone where people stand, but honestly we know that at this point. There's no binding resolution here that would actually DO anything except showing that US and its vassals suck.

Note that the entirety of the UN has voted to stop US sanctions on Cuba (except the US, Israel, and Ukraine) every year and nothing ever actually changes.

  • Disclaimer for some of these: Wild animals shouldn't really be pets. In some cases they end up that way because they can't be reintroduced to the wild, but should only be taken care of by somebody experienced. That goes for most of these animals frankly, none of them are something I would say somebody should buy on a whim.

As an example of that fennec fox are absolutely adorable, but wild animals. They are very social, so either you would need to be home all the time or get two. They're also nocturnal and SUPER active. Not easy to feed too, you would need a steady supply of insects and eggs, among other things.

Bats are very social, and would probably require you to have multiple bats They can do okay in captivity, but aren't something I would just recommend the average person get.

Crows are frankly too smart for it, they aren't going to be happy in captivity. From what I understand, they develop a lot of mental issues in captivity unless they are very specially cared for.

Axolotl are cute. They can be raised domestically and work okay as pets. They are also endangered and probably should not be kept as a pet by an inexperienced owner.

Capybara can be domesticated fairly well and get along with people, but need a lot of space.

Reptiles are fairly easy to take care of if you do some research and know what you are doing, I used to rescue and keep snakes. Still, you would want to make sure you are getting their habitat/temperature control right. I would probably go with any of the lizards/amphibeans.

  • In terms of some kind grand treaty and international recognition? Not anytime soon. Things are rarely so clear-cut.

However, a lot of occupiers left Israel after these attacks. Those are concrete wins because that is exactly what should be happening. Palestine has little left to lose, this is their home and they are already in concentration camps. Many Israelis have other citizenships and can go back home anytime they want. Who do you think is inclined to fight harder.

I think a better question might be can Israel ever actually win this, and the answers to that is no. Not without a genocide even worse than anything we have ever seen to date. There will always be people willing to fight against the invaders.

  • Can you begin to imagine being born and living your entire life in a concentration camp? Having children and knowing that they will know nothing but life as a prisoner. Now imagine that just outside your cages a bunch of your jailers are having a party. What would your reaction be?

No, those attendees are not IDF operatives but they are settlers that are part of the Palestinians people's subjugation. Look, I understand that there are people born in Israel who did not choose to be there and I have some sympathy for specifically those people, though they should not be at a festival next to a concentration camp regardless. However, unlike the Palestinians THEY COULD LEAVE. In fact, in response to the attacks on Saturday many of them did just that. Guess what the Palestinians can't do, even if they wanted to leave their home.

And the Palistinians have no choice in the way they resist the occupation?

They tried peaceful protests years ago, Israeli forces shot them, specifically targeting medical personnel. The UN investigated it and determined that basically every fatality at the protests were unjustified, and condemned Israel for it. Then the international community proceeded to do absolutely nothing else.

Would you prefer they try that a few more times?

  • I see more Israel/Ukraine flag combos, but I have seen a few of those as well.

I sorta get it, if someone were looking at both situations purely as "resistance fighters against their oppressors" They aren't actually comparable in that way at all, but the mental gymnastics required for somebody with only a surface level understanding isn't too great. I feel those might be the people that you could have some hope of educating on the realities of the situation.

  • It would depend on the laws in your city, worth looking into to be sure. It's likely they would be able to find some vandalizing/graffiti law they could throw at you if they wanted.

Now would they actually enforce that for most things, including pro-occupier stickers? Probably not, but they do like passing laws that they can selectively enforce when it behooves them. I had a Palestine flag sticker on my computer for years and I magically always got flagged for extra "random" security when I flew anywhere.

Either way, probably best to be subtle about it and not do it right in front of police.
