I already have many of native trees in my yard. For the small clearing there is, fescue is the way to go. It probably depends on where you are but in my region this is what works best for 99% of people
Native grasses here can’t be mowed short. Ticks/fleas are already an issue and I’d rather not make them worse. And imagine picking up dog poop in tall grass. No thanks. I’ll stick with my fescue
So many good updates! Great job. Local only would be good for Reddthat support, community discussion, etc.
Most people do though and they won’t see Lemmy posts. It might just be that google is still figuring out how to index federated websites
Ya I think once they fix it you will see the inverse. Probably a lot of mobile iOS users
I think discoverability of niche communities is another big issue. It’s hard to find them and even when you do a lot of the times the algorithm won’t show them to you.
Don’t most people use Google though?
Nope nothing shows up lol. Maybe it’s iOS/safari?
I’ve searched for older Lemmy posts on Google just to see if they are getting indexed and I don’t think most are? Can anyone else confirm. I think if Lemmy showed up in more google searches like Reddit it would bring new users
Do you use Lemmy on an app? I’ve never gotten gifs or short clips to work but I use the default web UI. Will be nice when it works embedded by default
One of the best movies of all time
I noticed the new betas have the ability to upload video clips. I think this has been a huge missing feature that Reddit and other social media platforms have
Thanks! I’m taking a look
I agree 100% with this. The abandoned community could be closed to posting and/or sticky the top post with a link to the active community.
LW admins are hostile and unprofessional in my experience. There are better instances and I’ve noticed Lemmy has become a lot more spread out the past few months.
I think some level of consolidation would help a lot.
I have noticed a lot of negativity from LW specifically and try to avoid that instance as much as possible.
It’s definitely demotivating. I think the biggest issue, and this is something I’ve heard a lot from outside the Lemmy sphere is the very divisive and niche politics that seem so prevalent on Lemmy world and Lemmy ML. I have tried to bring people to Lemmy and they’ll usually see the LW front page and not return. Communism/far left is not popular with the general public and will scare most people away. The top posts of Lemmy can also be very negative.
I try to practice what I preach and have joined reddthat and try to run positive communities with no negativity allowed.
Your posting has definitely helped and most of my posts get a decent amount of upvotes which is what keeps me going. I hope more of the general public joins Lemmy and the extremist politics aren’t so front and center.
