Google to add extra layer of protection when installing sketchy apps (APK teardown)
Google is working on a feature that will require you to enter a PIN or submit biometric authentication before installing an APK.
TL;DR
- Google is adding an additional layer of security when installing an APK or updating an app through an APK.
- A PIN or biometric authentication will now be required in certain cases.
- This will be the case for APKs that Google thinks are malicious or didn’t come from the Play Store.
I see they're looking to kill F-Droid.

It's a good thing nothing malicious comes from the Play Store... we are totally safe...
63 0 ReplyI hope it is optional. Otherwise it makes sideloading more cumbersome for power users.
35 0 ReplyIf it is a feature of play protect then you should still be able to opt out of it.
