The gamers are so far gone they will have to be put down
Two guys logically explain why The Boss, a middle-aged war veteran, does not look like a 20-year-old e-girl
Gamers: Well she should look like one anyway
I'm so tired
It's so fucking stupid, she looks pretty much exactly like the original character but in a photo-realistic style
Holy shit, I somehow missed the most unhinged comment:
[CW: Transphobia]
spoiler
They made the boss look trans and that's a fucking crime.
The chin is different, it looks like a man's chin, the mouth is different, it looks like a man's mouth, more specifically it looks like Chris Chan's mouth, don't believe me, go do an image search. Neither the mouth or the chin or the brow or forehead or zygomatic process feminine in any way in the remake version.
The boss has deep cheek hollows because they changed her maxilla as well, literally everything they did was to make the Boss look like a ******.
Gamers: Realism in video games doesn’t matter, unless it’s a black person existing in a medieval setting in which case I suddenly really really care about realism.
It's literally soft vs harsh lighting and PS2 vs PS5 graphics. The new character model literally has the exact same bone structure as the old one. It's just that the harsher lighting on the PS5 makes her features look stronger, and reveals extra detail that the PS5 can render.
Do gamers even know how lighting works in photography and film?
The only thing I'd be critical of here is the removal of the yellow colour filter for a blue one, yes it's a stylistic choice and the yellow filter does date the original game to the mid 2000s, and the developers want to avoid their remake looking dated, but it was a big part of how the original game looked.
I would say that the Boss is supposed to have kind of a motherly or matronly vibe, but of course the gamers have to be super weird and porn-brained about that, too.
There's definitely some sexuality undertones in The Boss vs. Big Boss, especially in that last fight where she's in a skintight sneaking suit half open to show booba. That's definitely intentional, she spends her the entire game in very much "unflattering" but very practical clothing.
They're basically fuckfighting to the death at the end there.
It's a production, so it's naturally going to be a bit weird and horny (and oedipal in this case) - just not completely porn brained like the gamers are.
"So, you'll happily pay $200 for a triple-A game with Atari graphics and not rant about using 0.001% of your recently bought 24Gb GDDR6 graphics card that cost you your kidney, right?"
Such a bunch of losers, even they don't know what they want. I bet they'd rant about "lack of graphical improvements" if Konami released the PS2 version with PC compatibility patches.
while you were learning skills and hobbies, or going outside and talking to actual human women, i was jerking off to anime girls and AI generated porn so much that it twisted my brain into gooey mush and now i think a normal looking, quite beautiful middle aged cis woman is too masculine or ugly or whatever and I promise you, I am merely the harbinger of what is to come. You people are not ready for the world we will build.
Lol. The boss isn't a "femme fatale". I admit they kinda had mixed messages at the end with the boob scar window but its kind of a big part of her design that she's very deliberately not sexualized for the overwhelming majority of the game. The old and new models are actually both conventionally attractive in terms of their physical structure and Kojima has confirmed that a young Charlotte Rampling was the main inspiration for the Boss in terms of her physical appearance...but she's supposed to look like a war vet...not a victorias secret angel.
Also: I get very "Robin Wright" vibes from the new model...and I dig it.
Gamers have no media literacy. The whole point of Eva was she was an inverse to the boss, SHE was the femme fatale spy with the sex appeal. But like I said in my other post, coomer brains just won't abide a woman being normal.
I always thought the boss looked like a normal middle aged women in snake eater and like that was a deliberate design choice for obvious reasons since that's her character. She looks fine in the remake, but ofc coomer brains won't be happy unless she's yassified with plastic surgery and giant tits into a bimbo.
It’s the same picture. Which is really sad that 20 years of progress in graphics and pc performance and that’s all we can do? Honestly I get a bit frustrated loading up a triple A game and the characters look like plastic dolls while the environment looks so detailed, insane particle and lighting effects.
I can only imagine what they will say about Eva if they show her before release or Meryl if they ever remake MGS1. Either way I am looking forward to the remake.
I'd really rather this just not get a remake, it's available on modern consoles and plays just fine. The more photeealistic graphics Aldo just don't really feel like they'd fit with mgs3 because that game is a cartoon. How would phtorealistic The Pain go?
Their approach to this remake is a bit odd. It largely just looks like a 1:1 remake of the original in UE5 with some gameplay tweaks which I imagine is bound to result in some weirdness.
They'll be using the original dialogue recordings so you have kinda stilted 2000s English anime dub acting coming out of extremely high fidelity 2020s character models
I'm willing to give a pass to StevenCBlah here because without further info I'm fully on board. That's fucked from start to finish. Why's she a brunette now? Why's her face all different? It's not like they just fidelity-updated her and made her look older, it's an entirely different person.
Also the lighting sucks ass now. That was an artistic choice!
Look closer: the structure is identical between them, it's just that things like the eyes and mouth have shifted shape slightly to accommodate an increase in detail, looking more like an actual face and less like a low-detail cartoon caricature designed to be clear and readable on a low-res screen. Her eyes also don't seem to be fully open on that exact frame which is creating a further illusion of difference, and that's 100% down to the fact that they can actually animate things like partially closing eyes against bright light now.
Look closer: the structure is identical between them
It's not though! I feel like this thread is collectively gaslighting themselves on the basis of hating gamers (which, fair!), but c'mon.
Her face is a good bit narrower, her lips are wider, as are her eyebrows, she's turned brunette from blonde, her chin got smaller / more rounded (OG Boss had some Chin Krimson going on there)
They're jumping ahead 3 console generations and shifting the artstyle so their faces are bound to change. I don't think I've ever seen a realistic 3D remake where the human characters' faces didn't end up looking different from the originals, especially with modern games where they base the character models on real humans
I don't see why you have to shift the artstyle in the first place but even removed from that I don't think this counts as anything near a faithful adaption of the old face. This is a re-imagining, which can be discussed on it's own terms, but it clearly does not look like the boss anymore. Her not looking old I'm happy to blame on PS2-Era limitations because you either look like that or The Pain, the rest of it is absolutely done on purpose.
