When Reddit Closes a Door, Lemmy Opens a Window.....

I made a couple comments yesterday about how our sub was no worse than many of the other snark subs that are allowed to remain on Reddit. But, snarking aside, do you know what’s even crazier? The Red Pill sub, which is a male supremacist sub that promotes toxic masculinity, misogyny, antifeminism, and r*pe culture through discussions on how to “get” women, is still allowed to remain on Reddit. It’s been quarantined since 2018, but it still exists and isn’t even that hard to find.

Those shit stains are allowed to continue their dangerous discourse that contributes to a society where women would rather be alone with a random bear than a random man, but god forbid we snark on a privileged influencer who lied, cheated, and stole to get to where she is today. It’s a fucking joke.

I love how much people are calling her out on SI only asking because of Knix being the sponsor. So you were asked a few weeks ago… and Knix randomly decides to suddenly be a sponsor just weeks before the event? Then ALL the graphics, website, media kits, banners, posters, and literally everything that includes the sponsor’s names gets magically redone, approved, and printed in that tiny span of time? Yeah ok. 🙄 People aren’t stupid, but she might be if she thinks Knix wasn’t involved from the start to set this up for her.

I don’t know if her arrogance has increased because of the Reddit shutdown or if it’s because she thinks she is a Super Model but it’s next level.

Hey all, long-time Lemmy user who spotted this community on my All feed.

So, first of all, welcome to the fediverse! I hope this isn't information overload, but I thought it'd be useful for you if I went over a few basic terms here, what they mean, and a big overview of how all this works.

First of all, your "instance" is lemmy.ca. An instance is kinda analogous to how an email server works. A Gmail user can email a Yahoo user just as easily as another Gmail user: same idea here. I'm on sh.itjust.works, a different instance run by a different admin, different mod team, different rules. But that doesn't stop me seeing communities (the equivalent of subreddits) and being able to post/comment/reply/vote in any of your stuff!

The fediverse takes this concept one step bigger. Mastodon users can see/reply/post/etc into Lemmy as well from their own accounts on very different platforms. Same with Friendica, Kbin, Diaspora, Soundstorm, Peertube, etc. All of these different platforms with different features and focuses, but we're all connected via an underlying protocol that allows us to all talk to eachother.

And the best part? Because of the separation of instances, no one person or organization can single-handedly make gigantic platform ruining decisions. A hypothetical Lemmy version of Spez would just end up killing their own instance as everybody migrates their user accounts to instances that aren't run by crazy people. There's even quite a few people who run their own tiny one person instances so they are quite literally their own admins.

As someone who put in many many hours answering questions and getting people acclimated during Reddit's APIocalypse, please don't hesitate to ask if there's something you'd like to know about Lemmy or the fediverse as a whole.

There is a new private Reddit group The Birds a Liar-a link to request to join is in the Jillian Harris snark post “we are alive”. Apparently previous pages tried to cut and paste the rules from the old site and this one is brand new. We’ll see what happens. Good to have this “Lemmy” as a back up.

In regard to the Reddit ban - I think it’s an effort in futility to start a sub with Birdie as the focus. It’s just going to get shutdown; which is ridiculous since she should not be above scrutiny but this is what it is. We might consider a more general snark for a period of time while things cool down?

There are way more famous people whose assholes get torn up way bigger than SNL's. It shows she truly has nothing else going on in her life that she sits and constantly looks at the snark surrounding her, when more famous people are too busy to care. All of the people that are on the blogsnarkmetasnark page (some of whom responded to the post) will come over to rip you a new one, then go back to their subreddit to talk about how horrible of a human you are. Just a warning. It's way more drama than what it is worth.

Narp. I’m gonna call it; it’s not ironic, it’s fucked. Mods had a choice of where to move this group to after the sub was taken down (for whatever reasons we are all hypothesizing). Discord was just as viable of a choice. Selecting a site that echoes the child’s name is fucked and even though she may exploit her kids, I’m not here for it and strongly urge the Mods to find a different gathering place because as a parent this just doesn’t sit well with me, coincidental or not.
