tiktok isn't banned in france. Paris is trying to reimpose itself on New Caledonia by all means. A correct title would be: Tiktok ban in New Caledonia makes VPN usage soar
it's probably temporary. Either they go free and tiktok is back, or Paris regains control and tiktok is back đ€·
IDK is the average TikTok user really installing VPN software on it's phone? And if something is banned in a country companies are far less likely to put in effort in it.
So even if people can still use it, technically, TikTok lifes of selling scam shit to people... If you have the skills to install a VPN your probably also not falling for that stuff.
I actually see that as a win. TikTok is not a platform for political discussion or private communication (by design) so I don't hate the idea of it getting banned.
I'm not on tiktok but my understanding is that there's a lot of Palestinians on there whose voice otherwise wouldn't be heard from the taxpayers that are funding their genocide.
That's a very positive political consequence of the platform.

Depends on the country. If you're in India or China, absolutely. And those countries have the largest populations on Earth by more than 4x the #3 spot.
Say what you want about tiktok but damn if it isn't extremely effective at sending information out of reach from governments, I don't know what it is. You can see they fear it hard.
It's directly controlled by Chinese government so please don't tell me TikTok would be out of reach... maybe for US Government :D
It is only effective in spreading stuff that CCP supports or doesn't effect them.
