  • i would simply not be emotionally invested in the powerlessness and ineffectuality of the resistance to the point i start uncritically consuming western media at the moment it is least likely to tell the truth

    all the reports are saying

are you kidding me dude? oh wait this is dot world. makes sense, this could be a reddit comment it sucks that much.
did you hear about Yemen laying waste to Eilat or expanding their blockade into the Indian Ocean?? probably not.
just got finished talking with an Israeli arguing they are both "made invincible by the IDF" and "harmed" by fear of "Iranian joke rockets". air defense isn't magic, the good systems we have just spam $2M rockets over and over at $2000 drones

Now Israel gets a greenlight for its genocide

    they already have it

the USA comes to the rescue to finish the job

    they're already there

    • Yeah okay fine I'll wait a week to see if any actual damage was dealt, which I doubt not because of the reports but because I didn't expect them to.

Iran is just another joke of a military power, they couldn't even make their own nukes after Pakistan gave them the instruction booklet because Israel had a free hand in destroying their progress because as stated Iran’s military is just as incompetent as every other arab nation.

The IDF isn't invincible, they have several known weaknesses that Hamas has been exploiting.

did you hear about Yemen laying waste to Eilat or expanding their blockade into the Indian Ocean??

Of course I have, I've been making offhand comments in both ml and world about how the Houthis are the only faction that has a functioning plan, especially compared to Iran, despite being funded by Iran.

I already predicted more than a week ago that Iran was barely gonna accomplish anything or bother to use actual firepower like their airforce for fear of combat losses.

This attack is lamer than when India tossed some bombs on an abandoned shed in 2019 to provoke Pakistan. It accomplished nothing in terms of physical damage, and it backfired internationally when the PAF shot down and captured their pilot.

Israel will do just the same and suddenly Iran is going to be looking really stupid for not actually doing anything.

And no, it won't escalate either because Iran will magically sing a different tune when they're faced with actual fighting just like every other arab nation has. They don't have the capability nor the resolve to force Israel into a disadvantageous position.

      • You're really going to have to withhold judgment on damage reports from entities with deeply vested interests both domestically and internationally to not talk about damage. From the video footage, it looks like damage was done to military targets deep inside Israel and that's all that's needed. The prevailing Israeli strategic hypothesis was that their air defense prevented Iran from striking inside Israel without exposing itself. The video footage appears to invalidate this hypothesis. For a very paltry amount of money, Iran causes Israeli air defense to consume hundreds of millions of dollars of materiel and still fail to stop the attack. A slightly larger attack will therefore do more damage, and a coordinated multi-actor attack will do even more. That's all the victory Iran needed, it broke the taboo of attacking Israel directly, it broke the hypothesis of impenetrability, and it did so while giving Israel advanced warning. Remember, during the strike, the skies in Gaza were quiet because Israel downed its entire air force.

No, Iran did not launch a decapitation attack, no it didn't launch a massive attack. It launched a precisely measured attack and it was the most cost effective attack we've seen so far. Couple this with Iran seizing a massive Israeli shipping vessel and gathering support from allies, and this is a major development in the conflict.

It will be Israel, the USA, and Western Europe who will expand this conflict, and that will bring further international condemnation and collaboration. If Iran went significantly bigger, not only would it risk strategic depletion, it would also be more politically ambiguous for its allies and future allies.

But all accounts except for total damage done, this was a successful operation.

      • more defeatism and crap about how the resistance is pathetic except for a random redeeming quality. fine, let's have a serious discussion after you spend a few more days doing pessimistic media criticism! seriously, let's go. i'm all for it. i may act like a bit of a dick but it's to make my disagreement unambiguous and avoid misunderstandings in the end

        @mlg@lemmy.world

  • What exactly was the damage even dealt?

All the reports are saying light damage to an airfield and a single citizen from shrapnel probably from all the projectile interceptions.

Iran had all the opportunity not to play into Israel's trap and they did anyway in about the worst way possible.

Now Israel gets a greenlight for its genocide and the USA comes to the rescue to finish the job and probably help stab Iran even more after they accomplished nothing.
