Clashes between Yoda and DZ Mafia gangs have killed dozens of people this year, according to police.
Two gangs, “Yoda” and “DZ Mafia” are vying for control of the drugs market in the notorious northern neighbourhoods of France’s second biggest city.
Since the start of the year, 36 people have died in the gang war, according to an AFP news agency count, already five more than in all of 2022.

I was so impressed at how the French approach even gang wars with a bit of pomp.
I was kind of disappointed when I opened the article to see that she’s just like, a cop. I mean, still fancy, I guess, but not “blastin’ with gold filigree on my hat” fancy.Also - horrifying. I hope they get that under control.

Are these deaths only in this gang war?
Really puts in perspective how atrocious American cities are for gun deaths…. This is barely the typical first quarter of the year.

The 36 dead this year mentioned in the post description are only for the direct conflict between the two biggest groups, the total is double that.
The two gangs were behind 80 percent of the total of 68 gang-related killings or attempted killings in Marseille this year, she added.
