Tesla is recalling nearly 200,000 vehicles in the U.S. because the backup camera may not display an image.
The recall covers certain Models Y, S and X from the 2023 model year. All are equipped with “Full Self-Driving” computer 4.0 and run software version 2023.44.30 through 2023.44.30.6 or 2023.44.100.
The company says in documents posted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that software instability may prevent the camera image from showing images while the Teslas are in reverse. The safety agency says that can increase the risk of a crash.
Tesla says in documents that it is not aware of any crashes or injuries. Documents say the problem has been fixed with an online software update.
Owners will be notified by letter starting March 22.
A recall in my mind is when I have to bring my car into a dear ship/ repair shop to have it fixed not just click update. It isn’t like they are pulling the vehicles off the road.
I just got a new(ish) car after my 21 year old Dodge became too expensive to repair anymore.
The backup camera is amazing! I have a much better field of view than I do with the mirror, and it also has this little wire-grid overlay to make it even easier to park perfectly straight and right up against a wall without touching it.
Because I would have posted it anyway, no matter which manufacturer was involved
Really? Because NHTSA has 40 vehicle recalls on file so far this month, some of which are much more serious, but this is the only one you've posted about. Recalls happen all the time for all sorts of reasons. This one is not really noteworthy, no.
