The horrors of modern medicine, ladies and gentleman.
You can easily critique PETA because they're mostly stupid, but they're not wrong that the treatment of these animals in pursuit of medical knowledge is pretty damn inhumane. The statement from the PETA representative is hyperbolic, as usual, and kind of misses the bigger picture of the treatment of the animals in general.
People who hate peta are mostly stupidly repeating KFC sponsored talking points. Peta alone is the reason 90% of animal protection laws exists on the US.
I feel this would play out like the Simpsons "Snake Wacking Day" episode.
Soon the monkeys would escape and breed.
Then, because they are an evasive species, we will need something to eat them, then something to eat that something, until we reach radioactive gorillas.
I feel like "evasive species" is an improvement over "invasive species" because monkeys aren't just where they don't belong, they're also clever enough to evade capture.
If you did it in purpose, 👍!
If not, 👍👍!
This will be like a monkey-style Playboy mansion, right? I’m gonna assume that’s what it is, because I can’t handle any more awfulness from the world right now.
The new evidence does not directly prove that SARS-CoV-2 jumped into humans from infected raccoon dogs, but it adds to a growing body of evidence in favor of a spillover from animals. Source
And COVID is not a food-borne illness - it's spread through air droplets from sneezing/coughing.
The mixed messaging on COVID and fomite spread was pretty funny. It was conclusive that it wasn't really spread by fomites pretty quickly. That's why they had us COVID nurses reusing our N-95s until the straps broke, and I never did get COVID while doing it.
