And the base is located in a country that leases land for military bases like it’s candy to any country that asks lol
29 0 ReplyAnd all those bases are for an international anti-piracy mission (though considering present circumstances it's worth noting that different countries are operating on different definitions of the word "piracy")

So are they saying that having overseas military bases is a bad thing now, or?

26 0 ReplyAmerica, Britain and a handful of other military powers have a global network of bases that have existed for decades and are mostly legacies of empire, the second world war and the cold war.
"legacies of empire" lmao. "We're not building new bases, just continuing to occupy 800 existing ones, so that totes makes our imperialism okay guys!"

Shoddy reporting here, The Economist is missing a few important ones like:
Countries that I had a wet dream about China hosting a base
Countries that start with the letter C, like China, that could have a base
Countries that China definitely hasn't considered hosting a base in but might change their mind someday
89 0 ReplyCountries with enough undeveloped land to host a Chinese military base
54 0 ReplyCountries larger than a Chinese military base, and so could probably host one.

Big tactical mistake by China to not maybe or maybe not consider what would happen if they asked Bhutan to host a Chinese base without actually asking them to do so. Speaking from experience here. I considered asking Bhutan to host a military base of mine (in the end I decided on not asking since I have no connection to Bhutan or any kind of military) and it worked out great.
24 0 Replychina should start building big signs (preferably visible from satellite) in any random place outside their borders where they can.
the signs should read "chinese military base here" in english.
there should be nothing else there.
