In general I try to get 8 hours of sleep each night but those 8 hours feel different depending on the hour I wake up. Last night I slept from 21.30 to 5.30 but I feel worse than when I sleep from 12 am to 8 am for example. There must be more to it than 'just sleep 8 hours'
It's not just sleeping a consistent amount but also sleeping at consistent times. Waking up at 5:30 after 8 hours can feel decent if you consistently do it for a bit.
At one time in my life I went 6+ months sleeping 6 or less hours a day. I was young so for a while it was just tiredness, but after some time it progressed to forgetting stuff, feeling hazy, irritability and falling asleep wherever. Do not recommend.
It does. I'm on an anti-psychotic/anti-depressant right now that knocks me the fuck out for 12 hours at a time, though, which is really rough. I can barely wake up the next morning and I'm late to a lot of things, even political events I genuinely want to be at. There have been times where I sleep from 11pm to 1pm the next day completely uninterrupted.
Now when I don't take them, I literally cannot sleep. Last night I was up all night and then I conked at 8am until 1pm.
