Deep-sea mining: A new gold rush or environmental disaster?
Environmentalists warn deep-sea mining could cause major damage to ecosystems that scientists know little about.
I'm pretty sure the original gold rush was also an environmental disaster that destroyed agriculture and introduced mercury contamination to the waterways, so this may be a bit of a false dichotomy.

yes. some people will get extremely rich while the rest of us are left to pay for the clean up.
