Ladies and gentlemen, esteemed guests, and fellow witnesses of this remarkable moment, I stand before you today with profound gratitude and humility. Completing this seemingly trivial task has been a journey filled with challenges and triumphs.
I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the unwavering support of my alarm clock and my coffee maker, as well as the wavering support of my cat. This achievement is a testament to the extraordinary power of perseverance in the face of the ordinary.
Yeah - I rotated the output arm on the Automatic brewer 180° so it brewed over the pour over instead of over its own brew basket. The design of this particular brewer totally accommodates it but I don’t think it was intentional…I’ve never seen it done before anyway.
I’ve made Yerba mate in my Moccamaster before, just have to clean it real well before you do. It comes out really good and better tasting than if I steep.
I assume it’s just the brew basket you need to clean thoroughly?
I don’t know much about Yerba Mate, but I did recently learn it’s a caffeinated holly shrub after we moved to a new house and I discovered we have a different caffeinated holly shrub in our yard (Yaupon holly).
From what I’ve read, the indigenous people here used Yaupon to make a caffeinated beverage but the colonial European tea traders were so concerned it would impact their business they spread the rumors that it caused vomiting. They were so successful in their smear campaign that it lead to the scientific name for Yaupon Holly being Ilex vomitoria 😅
Yeah I just make sure there’s no coffee residue in the basket or the carafe. Yerba is pretty bitter so the Moccamaster technique seems to mellow it out. Plus, the name brand I bought is really dusty so I get a nice clean cup brewing it through the paper filter.
I love drip coffee and then was a French press guy for years but now I'm a decaff pour over type with the ceramic top. I wish there were drip machines without plastic.
What can I say? My love of coffee exceeds my body’s capacity to process caffeine.
Before we were old enough to drink my friends and I would sit in the local diner shooting the shit and drinking free refills of coffee until the sun started coming up before we would go home and immediately crash.
Can’t do that anymore. One of the first ways my body started failing me as I’ve gotten older…
It’s just evidence of 1) my laziness and 2) my biggest complaint with the Moccamaster: No volume marks on the carafe
Easier to over fill it at the sink, than under fill and make two trips. And since I was brewing into the v60 it didn’t really matter.
The brewer also has no way to turn off the hot plate independently of the water heater and I’d actually be worried to put an empty carafe there. I’ve seen them explode when doing that before.
