In an unexpected twist, Sega announced that it is currently working on multiple games from several of its dormant franchises, including Jet Set Radio and Golden Axe.
It's a weird take, but I'm not sure I expect a new Jet Set to live up to what Bomb Rush Cyberfunk put out. That game was a love letter, and absolutely nailed the style, gameplay, and nostalgia. I'd be afraid of getting a new Jet Set and it ends up being kinda generic or uninteresting.
You're is the first comment I've seen on all these posts about the Sega reveal even mention BRC.
I loved JSRF and I loved BRC because it was everything we loved about JSRF plus a bit more. It kinda makes me sad to see all these people completely forget about that awesome game.
Im just excited that BRCF made spraypaint on wheels a mini genre, and hopefully JSR returning creates an ongoing development of both games and sequels.
I love this stuff, and I want to see it evolve and improve. Even if BRCF keeps the crown, Im stoked to see JSR try and take it back
I don't know if it's feasible, but I'd really like a direct port and remaster of the original, and it would be extra cool to swap between the old and new game. The remaster would bring all new models and perhaps add some areas, but keep all of the old areas.
If they focus on the nostalgia factor, I think they have minimal risk of screwing it up, as long as they get decent music. If they try to reimagine it, it'll probably suck.
They have to bring back Hideki Naganuma. He recently did some music for bomb rush Cyberfunk and based on his Twitter, he seems very much aware that Jet Set Radio is going to be his main legacy. I suspect he'd actually be pissed if they made a jsr game without him.
I was really hoping that the ‘more’ included a new Outrun. The last new game was 2006’s Coast to Coast. I loved that so much I bought it on every platform.
It’s such a simple formula, at least on paper. Drive a cool car through a diverse collection of stages with branching paths. There’s been a few clones over the years, but nothing that comes close to the charm and quality of the actual Outrun.
Now, I know that the Ferrari license is an issue. But there’s plenty of other car brands that would supply equally iconic rides. Porsche, Lamborghini, BMW… and plenty of cool Japanese options as well.
I’ll drive the game in a goddamn Lada Riva ss long as it’s proper Outrun.
I’d much rather have them do EXACTLY what they did with Coast to Coast; no need to change what’s working honestly.
About the only thing I’d change is the thing we’d need to change anyway: the car selection. A new game with different real life brands would be awesome for us car nerds.
Outrun is a vibe as much as it is a game. I’m really hoping we’ll get one eventually. I’d put up a silly amount of kickstarter cash for SEGA to make a new one.
