It is where I am because I'm fortunate enough to live somewhere people realized our natural resources are an asset so you can't have billboards.
It's not rare in the parts of America that should sink into the mantle though.

They have billboards but they're generally ads for actual products and not a plea to not smoke meth and molest your daughter or saying that Satan rules America because we're murdering innocent babies.

In most of the EU at least, generally not on roadways I believe. Definitely banned on roadways in my mom's country. In countries where they are more common, it's all stuff like [car brand], [museum/landmark near you], [tv network], [unoffensive mainstream political ad], a lot of which is still annoying but preferable to [strip joint at exit], [call shady lawyer now], [repent or burn], [i'm mclovin' it]

Canada does, but for the most part it's just boring advertising and not the wacky shit you get down in the states. You occasionally get an anti-abortion billboard but nothing as intense as what you see down south. Although I used to work for a guy who put up a whole bunch of anti-abortion and pro-trump signs on his land along a highway, including a whole fake graveyard for the unborn babies. Same dude flew a Confederate flag in his backyard

Is this what America is actually like? I find it hard to picture the US in my head. Things like "Wall-mart" and "Bill-boards" aren't really things in my country. We have ads, way too many ads, sure, but this sort of thing just doesn't seem to exist over here. Billboards seem entirely used to show off local radio stations around here. This sort of thing is...confusing to me.

Have you seen the images of Breezewood, Pennsylvania? The striking thing about images of that town is that it looks like literally anywhere in America. Half of the country looks like giant signs next to a highway. Ocean to ocean of billboards, 6 lane dangerous roads, gas stations, and McDonald's. That's what we did to this place and it's what the natives were displaced to build. Death to America.
