New admins: Intro
Hey there, This post is to let you know that @kersploosh@sh.itjust.works and myself have recently been appointed as admins here by @TheDude@sh.itjust.works to help them and @imaqtpie@sh.itjust.works with moderation.
We've been meaning to introduce ourselves for a while, but hadn't taken the time just yet, here it is.
I'll be posting more about me as a comment below because this is getting long already.

Ça fait un moment que nous voulions faire ce post pour s'introduire, alors voilà.
Je vais écrire un peu plus d'info à mon sujet dans un commentaire ci-bas.

About me as a person:
I'm a network engineer with a focus on large enterprise and ISP networks.
As such, my superhero power is simply being calmer than most people during a crisis, outages or other dumpster fires...
That and tying knots in ropes with my bare toes, which sadly doesn't come up as often as the first, but at least now you know.I'm from Québec and I speak French at home. I'm also fluent in English, feel free to reach out to me in French or English either on here, DMs, reports, etc. My hobbies include (in no particular order) mini painting, 3d printing, home automation, self-hosting, video games, hiking, camping, and a few other things. My username is inspired by Planescape: Torment which is still my all-time favourite CRPG.
About me as an admin:
So far, my time as an admin here has mostly been spent on removing Spam, CSAM, or otherwise harmful or illegal content.
As an admin... I feel like curating what fits in a specific community, as in being off-topic or not, is likely out of my scope and would rather leave that to community mods whenever possible. Abusive content is another story.
While I don't plan on removing content or banning users that I merely disagree with, I think a minimum of civility should be expected. I have no qualms removing slurs, racism, transphobia, death threats, etc.
But really, it's about you:
All of this is about making this place more enjoyable for you.
I've already interacted with a few of you, either through recent reports (which I try to reply when I can) or from my time before that, and I try to be mostly reasonable and helpful.

Je travaille en réseau depuis quelques années, principalement dans des réseaux de grande entreprise et de fournisseurs de service.
Fac, mon superpouvoir c'est juste d'être plus calme que la moyenne quand toute pète pi que la marde pogne dans le fan...
Ça, pi faire des noeuds dans une corde avec mes orteilles, mais malheureusement ça sert moins souvent pi ça l'air que j'peux pas gagner ma vie avec ce talent là.Je viens du Québec, j'parles français à maison, mais j'suis bilingue.
Hésitez pas à me parler en français ou en anglais, que ce soit dans ce post, en privé ou dans un signalement.Mes hobbies incluent (sans ordre précis) peindre des figurines, impression 3d, domotique, héberger mes propres services, vjeux vidéo, randonné, camping pi d'autres affaires que j'oublie.

À date, c'est surtout de retirer le spam pi les trucs illégaux ou dégueux du genre abus, pedo, etc.
En tant qu'admin, je ne crois pas que c'est de mes affaires de définir ce qui est hors-sujet dans une communauté et on tente généralement de laisser les modérateurs des communautés s'occuper de ça.
Ceci dit, le contenu qui est carrément de la vidange, c'est un autre affaire.Je n'ai pas l'intention de retirer ou de bannir du contenu quand j'suis seulement en désaccord, mais y a quand même un minimum de civilité à respecter. Je n'ai aucune gêne à retirer les trucs abusifs, racistes, transphobes, les menaces de mort, etc.
Pour kessé faire:
Tout ça c'est pour vous, de faire en sorte que ce site soit un endroit plus agréable pour vous.
J'ai déjà communiqué avec certains d'entre vous, peut-être lors d'un signalement récent (j'essaie de répondre quand c'est possible) ou en dehors de mon rôle d'admin.
J'essaie généralement d'aider et d'être raisonnable.À revoyure

Au travail, j'écris en français plutôt qu'en québécois, mais ici je voulais mettre une touche personnelle.C'est toujours un peu drôle de voir comment on parle une même langue... ou presque.
Même au Québec, il y a parfois d'énormes différences entre différentes régions.
Personnellement, j'ai un faible pour les Îles de la Madeleine, j'adore leur accent et leurs expressions même si je ne comprends pas toujours tout.
Tiens, il y a des projets de développer le coté billingue/Francophone de l'instance ? (je suis content du travail des copains de jlai.lu)
Car pour l'instant à part la cotébarre et une volonté affichée (ce qui est bien) ça reste une instance anglophone (pas un mal en sois)

Perso, je crois que j'ai surtout tendance à répondre dans la langue dans laquelle on m'écrit.
Là c'est bon, je sais que tu parles français, mais si tu avais écrit en anglais je t'aurais répondu en anglais.Comme la majorité du contenu est anglophone, la plupart de mes commentaires risquent de l'être aussi.
Ce qui rends le tout un peu plus anglo par défaut.J'aimerais bien qu'il y ait plus de contenu francophone, mais pour ça il faut en créer.
(Et oui, j'aime bien aussi les copains de jlai.lu)

About me as a person:
I'm a mechanical engineer working in the medical device field. I am American and have lived in four different time zones, but I consider the Pacific northwest my home. I love cycling and try to commute by bicycle at least a few days a week, year-round. I also love cooking, skiing, backpacking, paddling, and fishing. My favorite international trips have been to Scotland, Sweden, and Brazil.

I have tried to take a "Yes, and..." approach on Lemmy, getting involved and contributing wherever and whenever the opportunity arises. I expect my biggest contribution as an admin will be battling the slow but steady stream of spam and troll posts. My biggest struggle (both as an admin and a community mod) has been walking the fine line between allowing disagreements and debates, and cutting off unacceptable speech. Be kind, be humble, and be good to each other.

I would say yes. The matrix chat is definitely a quick way to reach admins.
For less urgent stuff, reports are also fine.
