I know, old gravel pits, but I can't help wondering what would be the effect of the lack of sunlight in the long run? You can't compare them with deep underground reservoirs that has no sunlight either. They also have no fresh oxygen supply nor other external influences.
It can reduce evaporation and reduce algae growth afaik. It doesn’t have to be bad.
Though … swimming vertical solar panels are also a thing.
Yeah, would a panel farm at a heigh sheep can graze beneath not be lower impact? Stagnant water isn’t much of an ecological bonus, though the panels would be more efficient if the water cools them effectively
That's not what I said. I know about advantages of water cooling them, but i'm just wondering if this not might come with an un-expected 'pricetag' at some point in the future.
How does it compare to an alternative as mounting them over a parking lot (or even some roads)? Yes, the panels would be less efficient, but you don't need to transport the electricity far and there would be savings on airco usage of the vehicles. Would it also be beneficial for the temp in the area not having the sun scorching the road but the panels which are air cooled at the top and bottom ?
Quite a bit of sun radiation gets through the panels i believe, so it wont be completely dark below. Im sure the types of flora to be found will change a lot tho.
