Frustrated with getting the horn parts for upgrading the heros armor

I keep shooting the bloody dragons in the head, but I only get scales instead of the horn part, is there anything else I have to do?

hit the horn, not the head. use a long range bow like a phrenic or golden bow if you're having trouble

also the first part from every dragon will always be a scale, so maybe that's your issue?

  yeah the game intends to make it easier to get your first scale, as you need them for shrines at the respective goddess springs
Just fly up onto one and run up and down bonking it like a xylophone. Then kick back, relax, and wait for the cooldown and do it again.
- I tried landing on my one, but it didn't go so well. Any tips? Also I'm having trouble getting the one up on the mountain to appear, what the me does it show?
  
  Is this BOTW or TOTK, I think you can only land on the dragons in TOTK (the sequel to BOTW).
