Didn’t Sweden also do this when its incoming hard-right government scrapped the high-speed rail project a few years ago?

  Well, the community is called "Europe" and the post title is a clickbaity "Govt is selling land". There are many countries and governments in Europe and post titles should be informative.

I think it’s a mistake. I think that the land should be kept for at least two or three years to...look at what can be done within that space
I mean, I assume that whoever buys it is going to do the same. It's probably not going to become some deserted wasteland.
What’s the European angle here?
It’s a straight up “liberal govt does liberal things and public gets the bill” story.
EDIT: apparently the liberal thing here is making it impossible to build high speed rail. That definitely is an European angle. Also, extremely fucked up.
- The UK is part of Europe.
  
  Barely. And even then, I would not really be interested in a post about a failed government land scheme in Portugal or Austria in this community either unless it somehow intersected with EU policy or influenced relations with its neighbors.
