A Wise Choice

From Owl Rescue Centre

We were called out earlier this afternoon to rescue a baby barn owl that some gent was trying to sell on the roadside in Soshanguve North of Pretoria.

Fortunately when we arrived at the site, the seller was still there and rather enthusiastic to sell the owlet to us for 500 bucks.

His enthusiasm dimmed somewhat when I explained the legalities of selling indigenous wildlife and it dimmed even more when he finally noticed the branding on our vehicle mentioning that we rescue owls and other wildlife.

We gave him two options. Option A, be a hero and hand the bird over so that we can rehab and release him, or, option B, which is to try and run.

It was at this precise moment I stressed that option A was the one I would personally encourage, but, my work colleagues sitting in the vehicle are hoping against all hopes you choose option B.

The gent reluctantly decided to be a hero.

The little patient has been fed and placed into our incubator with a few others for the night. It's a little bit chilly here tonight.

Owls are not pets!

Option B
