how do i stop images from showing like this? (noob question)
important: i'm as noob as a noob can be when it comes to linux. i have been using linux for a few months now bc i hate big tech, and i'm trying to learn gradually, but i know next to zero about coding and downloading stuff from github and stuff like that, please be considerate of that if anyone tries to answer me 🥹
i'm someone that likes downloading many memes and pics for communicating in messaging apps. however, when i try to attach a file to a conversation, my pictures are shown like this (a big list in which i have to click every picture one at a time to find the picture i want to attach), which is kind of annoying. does anybody know how to show the images in more of a gallery view?
Unfortunately mint's file picker dialogue doesn't have grid view yet - I think Gnome just got it a few versions ago. A workaround for now is to find stuff in the normal file browser, copy a file, then paste that into the directory in the file picker (control+L to edit the directory as text), then press enter.
While not always relevant, drag and drop sometimes works for certain apps. I find it useful sometimes.
On my Mint 22 Wilma setup using Xfce, using Firefox 139.0 (64-bit) mint-001 - 1.0, when I click the "upload image" button here in lemmy, I see small thumbnails for .jpg and .png files, but not for .webp.
Maybe the .webp format is too new?
Ctrl++ doesn't work in my "File Upload" dialog box to make the thumbnails bigger.
Edit: I always rename files I download to give them descriptive file names, starting with the most important word first.
I can see some unofficial XFCE guides for getting .webp thumbnails working, but I haven't seen a Mint one so use them at your own risk. (Works by default in Cinnamon)
