Google Maps partners with TfL to prioritize safer cycling routes in London

Google Maps will soon start to prioritise safer, quieter roads when giving cycling instructions for journeys within London -- thanks to an information sharing partnership with Transport for London (TfL).

Hopefully this means Google maps is also improving its routing for bicycle routes, as it has a number of issues routing on bike routes in the Netherlands.
- Yeah, it's close to useless in my city, in stark contrast to the quality of its driving directions. It loves to ignore quiet roads too send me to chaotic large busy intersections without bike lanes.
That's a great change which I would love to see implemented everywhere. I just hate having to bike near heavy traffic.
Would be nice if there could just be safer cycling infrastructure in general.
- I cycle in London a lot, and the improvement to cycling infrastructure over the last 20 years has been extraordinary in many boroughs
  
  I just wish outer boroughs would take it more seriously. I have a lot of bike lanes in my zone 5 borough, but they start out of nowhere, go for a short while and then end suddenly. So on paper we have loads of cycling infrastructure here, but in practice it's useless and it's better and safer to just ride on the road in traffic.
  
  Do cyclist get hit and killed daily in the UK, or is this another unique American problem? I'm terrified to ride here.
