Balatro is great but I'd love just one more feature
a daily challenge with a leaderboard a la Slay the Spire with randomized run parameters would be so fun. that would become my subway crossword.
I guess it would have to be "unlockable" so as not to spoil any of the unlocked cards etc? that's the only bit of friction I can think of - StS has "rare" cards but nothing the player needs to unlock.
Balatro has a very active modding community. If you know Lua or have the time to learn you could get a new project.
I've only seen the meme mods on youtube where you can have all 150 jokers and break the game. I'll have to look into one that tweaks the gameplay a bit.
Localthunk has a big update in the works for this year that’ll add more jokers and rework some of the stakes, so it’s possible we’ll see some sort of daily/weekly challenge added.
I ended up tracking down an AMA where someone asked about this very feature and a year ago they said it was "definitely" in the pipeline but no ETA was mentioned. Would be great to see it but I'll happily let them cook at their own pace.
Spoiling jokers for a daily challenge sounds like a worthy trade to me. The joy of discovering a new joker seems like a small % of the game, learning what it is a fraction of that. Maybe it could be in disguise and still have its effects if it's not unlocked. Learning the abilities of an unlocked joker seems like a giga tiny enjoyment compared to the great playability that comes with a daily challenge
