How much do you still use Big Tech (Microsoft, Google, Apple, Whatsapp, Instagram) in your daily life?

Not even asking about Twitter and Facebook as I guess most people don't use them

  • I don't own a smartphone since the area I live in has no cell towers nearby anyways, not much point. I have an old flip phone with a prepaid plan I keep in the car for emergencies, but otherwise I'm still living without.

I use tuta for my email, and privacy focused front ends when possible.

I've setup a Matrix server with bridges to Whatsapp and Discord so I don't need to use their clients, and have better control over what traffic is being sent/received.

My tablet, and any IoT devices, are kept in a VLAN so I don't need to worry about what kind of information they're sending back to them.

Facebook/IG/etc have never really been a thing in my life, so that's never been a problem for me to begin with.

All of my computers/servers run Linux with the exception of my Gaming Rig, which is currently running AtlasOS (modified Win10) but I'll be switching it to Linux at some point in the next few months.

  • More than I wish, but less than most. Still have Win 10 on my laptop, going for Linux Mint soon though. Got OneUI on my phone, but only got two months of payments left so getting something else and going for either GrapheneOS or /e/OS. And I use YouTube a LOT, but via Vanced on my phone. Stopped using anything from meta years ago, same with email and search from non-big tech providers.
