The biggest dam in the Indian state of Sikkim, generating 1,200 MW of power (roughly the same as the Hoover dam) was washed away in 10 minutes after flash flood
Anyone else reminded when they see stories like this how much they fucking hate the British for what they did to the subcontinent and never paid reparations for?
That's likely the case. I don't mean to deny agency to India. It just infuriates me that Britain destroyed India's industries and stole (and steals) so much of it's wealth. India's had independence for a while, of course, but I can't help thinking how much better prepared it would be for disasters like this if it had been able to develop without being ransacked. It's a trite point, really; I just don't need much encouragement to remember that I detest colonisers.
Comrade from the US here. Not familiar with Sikkim and was curious what everyone's stance is about it. I got a garland of country flags for my geography class and had to look up the Sikkim flag, which is right next to a flag of Kosovo, and it really has me furrowing my brow.
