Instagram appears to be testing a Community Chats feature but only a few would be able to join these chats.

Instagram appears to be developing a feature called Community Chats.
These are chats in which up to 250 users can participate.
The feature is said to be an internal tool and Instagram has no plans to roll it out to the public just yet.

When Discord enshittifies to the point it shows ads in chat, Instagram will be ready to swoop in and capture the market with the same shitty ads.
- I'd wager another better alternative will come up that'll be like Discord, get great traction, then go public, then enshitify. The cycle of crap software continues until a FOSS option appears.
  
  Trying to get my friends to try anything other than the entrenched option is the issue I have.
  Haven't tried it but Revolt is the FOSS alternate for discord right?

The comparison with Discord makes non sense, the feature seems to be just a normal group chat, like the ones in Telegram/Whatsapp/iMessage. Discord's killer feature is the ability to have multiple channels within a server, which allows more organization.
