I left the moment the blackout started. After u/spez AMA and the verge article I knew I was done. I’ve got the front page 5x in 6 years 359k karma. It’s hard not checking Reddit but I got to move past it
I am really impressed that Boost actually survived for a whole week after 1st July. But it gave me a certain anxiety because it could stop working at any time.
Now, I think I can finally complete my migration from Reddit as the only thing that was still holding me was Boost.
It was easier for me to leave once I said fuck it and just deleted my account.
It’s also easier accepting that Reddit just won’t be the same ever again no matter what. Shit is changing. It had already been slowly changing over the years as it became more popular. Quality of content has been declining for a while.
It used to just get a little shitty in the summer when kids were on summer break, but as it became more popular the seasonal change became less noticeable.
Now every thread on Reddit always has some dork talking about how “wE aRe NOw in thE FinD ouT pHasE” (or some variation of “fuck around, find out) like they are saying something original or clever.
I just made the switch from Jerboa (unreliable) and Connect (missing features and unreliable). Liftoff seems to have everything I want from a Reddit-adjacent website.
Make sure to pre-register to know when boost for lemmy is available! You can do it either by finding it on the play store or by clicking the link from a popup in boost for reddit.
Yeah my boost (even revanced patched) is taking yonks to load comments and half the time isn't loading any posts. It's over. Just came onto lemmy and it's literally just Reddit. Bring on boost for lemmy!
It still works for me, it just takes ages to load a lot of things. I'm guessing the API token is still active, just throttled? Hopefully we're not causing the developer to see a huge bill at the end of the month, but if the app was made under an LLC then it's probably not getting paid anyways.
Either way I'm just happy Lemmy in general is getting more and more solid, and growing the user base. I personally prefer the BaconReader app which doesn't seem to have plans to migrate or to open-source, but Boost is still pretty solid with all it's customization options. I only started using Boost once BR stopped working, but I could see myself switching. (FWIW, I'm posting from Connect, which also seems pretty good except for a few minor tweaks I'd like to see.)
I mostly just use it to browse not logged in since I spend most of my time here but yeah comments went poof and searching for subreddits is no more. End of an era but the beginning of Boost for Lemmy era :)
Still can't bring myself to uninstall it yet though!
Seems to be sort of working for me. The home page still loads but no comments load. I only open the app occasionally though. I've been mostly using Kbin now especially since I've been able to beta test Artemis
Huh... It was working for me this morning, but now it doesn't seem to be. I suppose that's it then. Deleted from my phone and no going back. So long Reddit! It was nice when you were, before you got ugly with greed.
