Hey dad how do they determine the weight limit of bridges?
- They drive bigger and bigger trucks over the bridge until it breaks.
  
  Then they weigh the last truck and rebuild it

that is what they are doing - guessing
- I mean, what else are we doing?
  Science is just structured failing forward with a protocol.
  
  Guess and check and guess and check and check the guessing by guessing a new way and checking out what happens.
