Hello! I'm a member of the FossCAD community and was wondering if it would be okay to host c/Fosscad here on lemm.ee. Fosscad@lemmy.world was recently removed as the admin wasnt comfortable hosting printed arms content.
This potential Fosscad community would be about discussing the safe and technologically interesting art of printing of guns and other arms. A practice that is legal in the United States for most citizens.
I just wanted to ask first, since I can definitely understand that its a potentially touchy subject even if completely legal.
The lemm.ee backend is hosted in Europe, and as far as I understand, it seems that homemade firearms are illegal in most of Europe. In other words, I don't think this instance would be a good fit.
Maybe midwest.social would be a good fit? They're a US instance, so there shouldn't be any legal issues with FossCAD stuff there. They've also got a Socialist Rifle Association community already, so it seems that gun communities aren't unwelcome.
Looks like kbin blocks hackliberty. I'm assuming that at least a few others do too, due to the conspiracy theorist bent of hackliberty. In any case, midwest.social is significantly larger, and you'd have better reach there.
