I imagine it was pretty strenuous, especially since she was injured several times on the trip.

For reasons of safety and practicality, much of the trip was by means other than bicycle - but her solo circumnavigation was a major sign of the times, of women's liberation and newfound capacity for independent travel.
Yeah I was going to say you can't actually manage most of the earths surface on a bicycle and there isn't a good way to get from one cyclable part to another.
By "practicality" do they mean she had a really sore vaj?
