Can you guys recommend some good games for me that would work well on an MBP M2 Max?
I realise the platform is going to narrow my options considerably but I keep hearing that things are getting better these days for mac gaming.
The obvious choice is Resident Evil Village and I'm this close to buying it but I'm a bit put off by first having to get it from the Mac App Store, then also the fact that it contains in-app-purchases but most irksome of all, the fact that it requires a network connection to start the game. None of these are dealbreakers, though that 3rd one is as close as it can get to a deal breaker because it's a real turn off. Why should I have a network connection? I'm sure I probably would but if I'm buying it, it's my game and I want to use it how I like.
The main criteria I'm looking for is:
M2 Silicone compatible
Looking for something with higher end graphics preferably. Haven't been able to do so for so long it'd be nice for a change.
preferably native (as opposed to rosetta)
has a single player mode
preferably is single player focussed
as little DRM bullshit as possible (such as completely unnecessary requirements for network connection to play my own game that I've bought)
I've previously enjoyed
Dirt Rally (2015)
Metro Redux
Civ IV and VI
I could list other games but they're pretty much all nearly 20 years old now so they're not so relevant. I particularly like racing but a highly conventional FPS would be fun too, I'm just not really very interested in multiplayer and prefer a storyline.
I really don’t get the influx of downvotes in this community. That’s sad… I’ve had a good time playing CSGo on my M1 Max mbp. But it’s definitely still not there. Otherwise the arcade games are pretty fun! Mini motorways is addictive!
The Gaming Porting Toolkit has worked fairly well for me with Diablo 4, so I imagine more PC-only games will be available as well as it exits beta. In the meantime Baldur's Gate 3 (early access) and No Man's Sky have native Mac support and I love how much time you can spend with them. I admittedly mainly play PC with those.
I also played the Middle-earth games on Mac if you're looking for a more linear style of narrative.
I guess this is kind of a troll comment, but Moonlight off a gaming PC or a cloud node with a GPU is actually a pretty perfect companion for the MBP's 120Hz screen.
