Bill Maher's foul-mouthed rant at progressives who shun conservative loved ones over the holidays
There's a good reason why people shun those who voted Trump, even if they're close family members:
Voting Trump isn't just some random mistake you made, or a choice to believe some guy who proposes things you may not like may solve problems that are more important to you.
Voting Trump implies accepting or overlooking a lot of things that are so out of line, so unacceptable and so immoral that it can't be seen as anything other than a major character fault: if you vote Trump, you're either actively complicit or you're a complete lunatic.
No matter how bad your problems are, voting Trump simply can't be an option unless you actively agree with the heinous things he proposes, and nobody with a shred of decency wants family members like that. That's why Trump splits families like no other politician in US history ever has.
Well you know, not everyone does or even has to believe what you believe. More than half of the country likes Trump. Even if you don't. And that's ok. It's called diversity. To shun them or call them names just because of that, shows your ignorance, not theirs.
You are sounding exactly like the close-minded stereotype of Republicans, you are just using different name.
So even tho I didn't vote for him, I think I will follow your example: I now officially take nothing you say seriously. :)

Correct. Everybody is entitled to their opinion.
But if you don't understand that nobody, regardless of their political opinions, should ever vote for someone who called for an insurrection against the United States Capitol, you're beyond help. And if you do vote for someone like that, it means that you agree with the insurrection - or at least that it doesn't matter all that much in your eyes - and that's beyond odious.
That's not even a political issue, it's a basic civic reflex: if you vote Trump, it logically follows that you're anti-American. I'm sorry but I don't see any other way to interpret your choice. I'm curious to hear what rational, reasonable justification you can come up with to overlook January 6.
And the insurrection bit is just one of the many things that should make Trump an obvious no-no for anybody who cares about this country even a little bit.
"Both sides! Both sides!" screams the privileged clown as the country is dismantled around him.
The well-being of the POC, LGBT, and women of the US isn't just a matter of opinion. Anyone arguing as much can get bent.
How about we don't shun any loved ones at any time? Why is this a partisan, holiday only issue for him?
