I appreciate this ornament. I'm curious what method you used to raise it as I'm not knowledgeable in sailboats. Is there a pulley on the rope or did you use a long pole?
Tied in a loop with clips installed. Its for hanging up the yellow 'Q' flag, which means quarantine. So when you sail into a foreign country and you haven't checked in with customs and immigration yet you fly the Q flag so nobody approaches your boat, and if the authorities are waterborne they know to come over and check you in.
After you are cleared into the country you replace the Q flag with a flag of the country you are in. That's called a courtesy flag.
