What shows had particularly good song selections, that introduced you to artists you might otherwise have never discovered?

Letterkenny introduced me to Japanther, Black Mountain, DZ Deathrays, and a bunch of other bands that would never hit my recommendations on any streaming services.

2 0 ReplyScrubs immediately comes to mind, though it's not a very current reference. I still listen to Colin Hay thanks to these scenes. And this one.
22 0 ReplyThe music choices were almost always spot on, exactly matching the tone of the scene
4 0 ReplyI was sad when I learned the episodes now available on streaming don't have the same music - apparently the rights expired and they had to change many/all of the songs. I only checked one episode and immediately went back to my low-res, offline copy

Had to double check myself but that's the guy from men at work.

I loved cliff martinez's ost for "the knick" breaking historical accuracy that obviously did the show really well.
1 0 ReplySilicon Valley. The songs they played at the end of every episode were pretty much universally bangers.
11 0 ReplyThe Venture Brothers and J. G. Thirwell.
Cowboy Bebop and Yoko Kanno.
4 0 ReplyDefinitely Bebop!

Not a show, but Tales From the Borderlands introduced me to Jungle, possibly my favourite music artist right now, as well as a few other gems.
9 0 ReplyJungle fuckin rocks
1 0 ReplyThe episode intro with "To The Top" by Twin Shadow is amazing.

Breaking Bad & Atlanta both had many new discoveries for me. Twin peaks s3 had some amazing music but I was aware of the majority of the artist beforehand
Edit: add Sharp Objects. Amazing sound design and found a few new gems
7 0 ReplyThe Top Gun soundtrack definitely sets the standard.

Peacemaker! So many good songs from bands I've never heard of. Especially Wig Wam and Band-Maid.
2 0 ReplyKipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts
1 0 ReplyAs a person with an interest in the history of movies I got throw in The Big Chill. It was the OG film soundtrack, I’m pretty sure it was the first soundtrack to hit the billboard top 10 albums in a time when that meant something and is full of ‘50s & ‘60s bangers.
2 0 ReplyStargate Universe
3 0 ReplySo many good recs on here. True Detective S1 really nailed it for me though.
1 0 ReplyDefinitely Arcane for a start. I'll probably think of others later.
4 0 ReplyCSI Miami had a Papa Roach song I liked a lot better than that cheap knockoff of the original CSI.
2 0 ReplyRick and Morty
3 0 ReplyThe outros in Hit Monkey introduced me to a lot of new artists. Here's a playlist of some of them: Hit Monkey
2 0 ReplyThe Bear has an awesome soundtrack
3 0 ReplyThe Americans. Whoever did the soundtrack for that show was amazing. Really great 80s music.

Sons of anarchy
3 0 ReplyKatey Sagal's cover of Bird on a Wire is one of most extraordinary things ever recorded. Tears every time.
Songs of Anarchy is pretty brilliant all around.
2 0 ReplySons of anarchy had some really good cover versions of songs (or a specific song I don't remember)
It was very good but rubbed me the wrong way for some weird random reason

Everything from Jody Hill / Danny McBride: Eastbound & Down, Vice Principals, Righteous Gemstones all have amazing soundtracks.
3 0 ReplyRighteous Gemstones has some great music. Not really into country or gospel either, but they found a few winners that work for me.

1 0 ReplyLucifer
1 0 ReplyTrue Blood
1 0 ReplySharp Objects Ep 2 Intro and another one by The Acid that I can’t recall which episode it was in.
Ep 2 end credits of Chainsaw Man had Zutomayo and while I believe I’ve heard of them before in passing, that song made me actively listen to them.
1 0 ReplyThe show was kinda lame, but Shrill had a pretty rocking soundtrack
1 0 ReplyThe soundtrack for euphoria was amazing- in context anyway, been meaning to look some of it up.
