Cool breakdown! Didn't realize that the material was so special. Definitely seems less practical than just a plastic case though. I'd like to see a case made out of the resin coated variant they used for the side grips. Seems like that would be an interesting look and a little more grime resistant.
People had a habit of posting absolutely disgusting leather iPhone cases, specially the brown one, and by using a fancy word like "patina" pretend it's not a teary oily mess.

So with that in mind, I think the new material will actually age better and people will actually like it, much like aged jeans.

  I tried to search the internet to determine whether a leather phone case is unhygienic. There seems to be nothing on this topic. I’m sure it is, but I’d love to see an actual article or study on it.

  Yes? My point is that calling a degraded material by a fancy name doesn't change anything about it, just makes people feel better about the money spent.

Fair enough. Scotchgarded mine. Didn’t change the colour at all.

I like the look and feel of the case. Will see about lifespan. Will likely get a leather case when it eventually fails.
I’m sticking with Otterbpx.
So they don’t actually uncover what the material is made of (likely plastic), and no-one is commenting on the fact that this case is a recycling / plastic nightmare that has nothing to do with sustainability.

  I guess the word “plastic” has been banned by the apple marketing team.
- Except that it’s very likely, if not already verified, that the fibers are made from recycled plastic…
