"Conversion therapy," also known as “reparative therapy,” is a debunked practice that attempts to forcefully change the gender identity or sexual orientation of the patient, which has often been compared to "torture" by its recipients and health care providers alike.
I'm writing this because I was also making the same mistake. I read "Kentucky bans conversion therapy" and I jumped to the conclusion that a republican was banning gender-affirming surgery or something like that (also because I'm not American and I'm not familiar with who Beshear is: he's actually a Dem politician).
Yeah, I assumed Kentucky would be banning something positive. I'm surprised that the state would make it harder to punish people for the crime of being queer.
When I read "[Republican state] bans ____ for youth," it tends to be something to do with removing protections for queer people, especially trans people. As a trans person myself, I have strong feelings about that. Apologies for posting right before I had to leave for work and making a mistake. Feel free to assume that I'm 'irritatingly horrible', I am used to it, because I encounter plenty of queerphobia.
I didnt call you horrible. I just called the comment horrible in case you had meant it in the way it was perceived by the people here including myself.
Mistakes happen, i just wanted to be sure that i understood you correctly before passing my judgement.
