The USA is escalating in Ukraine and it feels like nobody gives a shit.
The fascists in DC want Ukraine to lob missiles deep into Russia and potentially kick off Russia making good on their threat to use nukes and like I said it feels like nobody gives a shit meanwhile the ghouls are in an orgy over okaying this.
Remember to vote for Kamala sweetie because if Trump wins he'll end the war with peace talks.
They're escalating because Russia is winning at the moment. Russia just took back 175 square kilometres of territory in Kursk over the last 24 hours. That's between 1/7 to 1/6 of the total amount of territory Ukraine holds in Kursk, gone overnight. Russia has also taken over 540 square kilometres of Ukrainian territory on the Eastern front in the last month, an advance of over 18 square kilometres per day for an entire month. I think with the latest long range weapons talks potentially allowing Ukraine to use long range weapons to strike Russian territory, Russia could provide more arms to Iran in response, and more arms to the Houthis/ Ansar Allah.
If it makes you feel any better, even trump as president wouldn't stop things. Under his administration, the cia and pentagon armed the shit out of ukrainian nazis. He doesn't have the attention span or the juice to change course on this.
There were a bunch of raids that happened right at the end of Obama/Biden, then we have a 4 year period of relative quiet, then this. It just feels like good cop bad cop, and they sometimes reverse those positions based on the theater.
I have actually chilled out a bit on this. Russia is winning and this escalation isn't significant enough to change that. Russia isn't desperate at the moment, and therefore the cooler heads should easily have the upper hand against any nuke-crazy maniacs.
It's still an escalation obviously, so unless someone gives in at some point, we're all going to die. It's just that right now, I don't think the Russians have any reason to even consider going nuclear.
Discourse on the war in the West is so dire. In one corner, you have liberals salivating for the blood of Russians and openly bragging about using Ukrainians as expendable cannon fodder; in the other, you have conservatives supporting Russia because 1) anti-liberal contrarianism and 2) "based traditional values Putin."
reddit is mostly feds. US social media is what americans think north korea is like. it's 100% controlled, same with all US media and the media of any country the US strongarms.
I hate that I get accused of loving Putin because he's Hitler, when in the same thread there's a German ranting about how aggression must be met with strength
the framing from the debate moderators of a ceasefire being a ukraine loss and a russian victory is fucking maddening. that just actively helps trump present himself as the peace candidate, which he's desperate to do.
Someone on this site made the argument that at this point Trump is probably the harm reduction candidate, and Kamala Harris the accelerationist.
I don't agree entirely, I think it's safe to say that Donald Trump is very dangerous for marginalized communities within the United States. But it's really sad when his policy on Ukraine is objectively better than the Democrats.
I feel like there are only two choices This election cycle. Do I want to go to war with Iran and Russia at the same time, or just go to war with Iran?
you don't have to vote and you don't have to vote for a major party. it's not a magic ritual. unless you live in a swing state the only effect it will have is a stain on your conscience for the rest of your life for having affirmatively said "yeah genocide is okay I guess"
You're forgetting about JOE ✊😠 He expanded NATO 💯💯 🇪🇺No one thought he could do it, BUT HE DID☝️
Now imagine what Brandon could do with 4 years of EXPERIENCE🤔‼️
#WriteInBiden #RidinWithBiden #StillWithBrandon
you are forgetting trump wants war with China. it was his admin that planned and attempted the HK riots. it was so blatant https://youtu.be/XoyGc41wcwc
also if he's not lying about his 100% tarrifs for countries that "snub the dollar" that totally makes him an accelerationist as well
As others have said, I very much doubt that Russia will escalate to the point of nukes unless NATO gets directly involved, and even then it might not happen depending on how things go. There's simply no real motivation for Russia to do so. Putin and his government are very well aware that usage of nukes is an extremely desperate ploy and thus should only be used if they're losing, but they're not only winning, but prospects are currently the best they've been in over a year because the Donbass front is finally collapsing.
I'm not even really worried about the usage tactical nukes in Ukraine or whatever, because what would the point be? What would they achieve that conventional explosives and attrition cannot? Ukrainian forces are already dispersed because of the threat of drones and missiles; there's not some giant parking lot with 500 tanks on it to drop a nuke on. The only thing they'd be potentially useful for are a) hitting airbases to deal near-irreparable damage to them (against what Ukrainian airforce? the F-16s aren't doing very well) and b) hitting Ukrainian cities, and Russia has kept civilian casualties very low compared to Western wars, displaying that they do not share the West's utter disdain for civilian life.
It's gonna be really fucking infuriating when Russia escalates and libs act like it was completely unreasonable and unpredictable when Russia has shown more restraint against the west than anyone in the west has in decades if not centuries.
Like if Russia, Iran, and China were constantly bragging about how they were arming the Taliban and encouraging the taliban to use those weapons to carry out offensive attacks against american infrastructure, would anybody expect us to show half the restraint Russia has?
if russia leaves cuck zone, but not dumb enough to use nukes, they have escalation ladder still: satellite interception, turn off ukraine electricity, bomb pipelines to uk (via unaffiliated rogue oligarch and couple of divers, as per custom), cut internet cables, provide target guidance to houthis. With nukes there is still space/infrastructure first (minimal human victims), but i feel like conventional responses fairly escalatory for the west porky already.
(the cuck zone leaving is another question entirely for a bunch of civility libs)
These are ATACMS and Stormshadow missiles supplied by the US and UK and France and so on to Ukraine. They are long range. They are made in the west and shipped in regularly. And importantly their launchers are known to be crewed by literal NATO soldiers from those countries. The targeting data and intelligence for their targets is supplied via US intelligence networks from US spy satellites.
The point is to use these weapons to like destroy an apartment building in Moscow and terrorize civilians. The point is to blow up a train station full of civilians. They might also hit some rear line Russian stuff like airfields I guess but mostly soft targets IMO.
They literally have been unable to use them for attacking deep into Russia because the US has said no and they control the missiles, both the supply and the people doing the firing and the people supplying necessary targeting data.
So they kind of are sitting on a cache of weapons, nicer missiles which are harder to intercept, which travel further, which are more evasive, etc. It won't alter the course of the war but will impose a higher cost on Russia which has been the goal of the US all along, to bleed Russia, to weaken them, to sap their interest in further entanglements and make the Russian public and leadership war-weary and wary of standing up to the west in future.
All this said, a problem with Putin is he's always talking big then backing down which unfortunately just encourages the west to continue to push these lines. If you're constantly threatening but not backing it up you start to lack credibility and others look for ways to salami-slice their way to backing you into a corner. Which is inherently dangerous and likely to lead to nuclear war.
He's really, really not a confrontational guy or a tough guy in these terms. I mean he got played for 8 years with fake peace talks as things continued to escalate before finally acting and even that act was at first just an attempt to intimidate Ukraine into surrender by going for Kiev but not actually trying to take it so much as apply pressure which resulted in an offensive that had to retreat later when the peace talks were predictably sabotaged by the UK.
the truth is they've already been launching them at Russia for a while now. I think some gov officials in Russia or diplomats have recently said this. Russian air defense has already adapted to ATACMS and storm shadow missiles and I think the vast majority of them get shot down now.
What's the Geneva 'we're not winning so you can't use forms of affordable warfare against us while we use chemical warfare that'll harm generations to come' suggestions about the dragon drones?
