Prior to the war Ukraine was the world’s 4th largest military arms exporter. They just stopped exporting and turned all their R&D on defending themselves instead.

Now that's interesting to know. With more money and resources, they might be able to make enough weapons to defend themselves.

I was kinda gobsmacked when they casually airlifted in Bushmasters from Australia. Figures that Ukraine has more strategic airlift capacity than the EU, our stuff is all tactical while Ukraine has seven An-124s casually taking on contracts.

I'm surprised it was this high. I would have guessed USA, France, China, maybe South Korea or India, but never Ukraine in 4th place.

Russia easily should have. Ukraine was home to a significant portion of USSR equipment production. Including things like aircraft carriers that Russia can now barely even keep running.
It is what the Russians turned them into. I'd prefer Ukraine was known for food, cement, iron rod, and other industrial equipment -all things that would improve my life. Instead they were attacked thus forcing them to become things that are not nearly as useful to me (or so I hope...)
Also lots of game industry and general software dev came from ukraine before. Very sadge how many projects had to stop.
Russians also believed Ukraine attacked Russia and that's why this war started. That turned out to be a self fulfilling prophecy.
Maybe that "death and destruction that lay in their path" is also a prophecy as they get closer to Moscow.
