I just bought a season of an anime from the Microsoft store, but it looks like the only way to download or view it is with an Xbox or on a recent version of Windows. Does anyone know how to get it directly?
Downloading from other sources is an option I already know; I'm just wondering if there's a way to get it from my paid version.
MS only wants you using their apps to access it since they have some form of DRM on it. At least with games, even if you install them on your PC, you don't have access to the folders that they are stored in. For example, you can't mod Microsoft store games (easily), because you can't access the actual game exe
There's this utility for dumping uwp apps but idk how it works for shows
The UWP files restrictions always irritate the shit out of me. Like man, you're gonna make me go reboot allllll the way into my MX Linux distro just to go poke around and look for audio files...
I know it's Microsoft, so I shouldn't be surprised by their unethical, ultra-capitalist business practices, but damn this is wild.
I realize that I'm much more invested in these things than the average person, but I don't understand why anyone is willing to deal with such bullshit DRM.
Honestly, even as a Windows 11 user, the Films & TV app is the only way I've ever found. You could try youtube-dl but it's unlikely to be able to bypass their DRM even if you can find a direct download link. I'd just go ahead and download it from another source, you already paid for it, you have the right to watch it IMHO.
