I said I would leave my just-turned 15-year-old account after June 30th, received a lot of fomo jibe, and have only been back when I've needed to update the social links of my profile with new Fediverse replacement accounts.
I miss the toxicity. I miss the inside jokes... I miss shitty watercolours. I miss the gore. I miss the profound comments. I miss the extremely detailed and informative answers to the most rudiment question.
Here is just: capitalism bad / Landlords suck / Linux / Chromium sux / Atheism
Don't get me wrong, I love these topics, but it's just that...
I found another website where I make my daily blog, but now I'm wasting even more time online....
You're in a meme community that's hosted on an instance started by Marxist-leninists. Of course you're going to see a lot of that. Have you tried to search for communities on other instances? I'm on Kbin, and this is one of many fediverse-wide communities I'm subscribed to from there. I don't get the constant politics and circlejerking on some other instances.
Hol up, you were using the reddit app / website and still left? Good on you!
For most of us clicking on our reddit browsers simply brought up nothing so the routine was quickly broken (removed RIF).
Have you checked to see if Reddit un-deleted them? I’ve heard a few cases of people mass deleting their posts/comments, only for them to reappear a few days later
I was on there for a similar amount of time and was permanently banned for badmouthing the British royal family. Well, suggesting that the problem if British royalty could be solved with bricks, which are cheaper than guillotines.
The most annoying thing was that they treated that as some sort of actionable threat of violence.
The thought of that sniveling reporter and admin getting all uppity because I threatened their lords...
I’d rather edit every single post / comment to say “Fuck u/spez” but I don’t know how to use the API to do that and I don’t have the time to commit to that project :/
The funny thing is being banned from a subreddit doesn't even stop you from continuing to edit your old comments in that subreddit. You just can't make any new ones.
5 yrs? Those are rookie numbers. I "deleted" mine of 10+ years. Guess who gave a fuck? Only me. Here I am on lemmy rebuilding the dream. Plz upvvote and subscribe. Plz. K thx ♥️
9 years for me. I wiped my comment and post history, but didn't delete it because all that does it take away any control you have if they decide to restore it.
@balderdash9 9 year old account...gone. I can't believe how much it took me to do that. The day after they started their new charges. I really held out hope that they would see reason, like Hasbro with the whole license issue. Shame. Goodbye Reddit. Burn in hell.
The difference with the Hasbro D&D license though is the cliche "you are the product" quote. Hasbro needs to sell D&D products to the people who they upset, but Reddit only needs to sell impressions to advertisers who didn't care about the API.
I got perma banned off of reddit for commenting on a sub that I had been banned from, and instead of them just not letting my comment post - they instead basically ban you for posting again.
So if you get banned of a sub on reddit and forget because...who cares.... You get yourself perma'd for ban evasion.
I got banned from like a news sub for saying "surprise not everyone shares your political opinion, of course there's dissent".
That's when reddit for me went absolutely to shit. Just getting blacklisted by mods who are reading into everything.
Yep. Bunch of echo chambers honestly. Mods will ban you literally for questioning the modding standards of certain communities. Which means only people who agree are allowed in; there's no way to change the rules. Power hungry fucks.
It’s such a relief knowing that Lemmy can’t get fucked up by some shill.
If I don’t like this instance I literally pick up my bat and ball and go to the next one over. Same experience there except without the person/people I don’t like.
Most deletion tools only view the profile pages, they have a 1k non refreshing cap. So only 1k newest, 1k top etc. . So otherwise delete account just makes the rest against a [deleted] user the posts are all still there.
Same, but I was snapped out of existence for "violating the rules". For talking about shooting paper targets at a gun range. apparently that is threatening violence.
I didn't delete my account or any of my posts when I left Reddit. Felt too much like punishing Reddit users and searchers of random information and not enough like punishing Spez.
I dunno. Aside from "fuck Spez" (which, don't get me wrong, I can't say is entirely unappealing), what's the argument to be made for deleting your post history via something like PowerDeleteSuite rather than just leaving and never visiting Reddit again?
Yeah, that seems a little compelling, except that they've demonstrated that they keep deleted post content. If they'd be sleazy enough to train AIs on our not-deleted content, they'd probably be sleazy enough to train AIs on our deleted posts as well.
Partly to reduce Reddit's reputation as the place to find answers for obscure problems, and partly to encourage neutral users to search for alternatives.
I think that deleters will not make a mind breaking difference, but the idea is to remove and rebuild that information other places.
With that said, if any of you had posted some obscure but wildly useful information on Reddit, please consider making a post in the relevant Lemmy community (or stack overflow, or wherever) with the solution.
I debated whether or not I should wipe my post/comment history, but ultimately I decided that I just didn't want reddit to have anything I created, no matter how worthless it is.
