Baldur's Gate 3's companions were overly horny due to a bug

If you found the companions in Baldur's Gate 3 to be a little too horny, well, it turns out that was due to a bug.

Relationships are a big part of the game's appeal, but there's no denying that companions come on a little too strong right from the off.

Speaking to TheGamer, game director Swen Vincke admitted that romances were bugged at the game's launch and have since been tweaked.

I had a convo with gale at the celebration post goblin camp and he was all about inviting me to see some magic trick and I was like cool, sure why not
then I speak to asterion and he's like "so your'e gonna fuck gale huh? Good on ya man"

the romance in this game is definitely forced and overly aggressive
- Yeah I just had a scene where wyll asked me to dance and I was ready to dunk on him with my skillz but instead they danced and make out and the game didn't even ask me if I wanted to
  
  This is the classic mass effect dialogue option meme where you pick a mellow option and then the MC lashes out.
  A: "No." B: "that's a great idea"
  You pick a. Then: "Why would you ever suggest that idea, that's horrible, I want you out of my group!"
  
  You might have missed a lot of signals over the years if you didn't grok that his hips weren't lying.

  I literally took all the options that piss her off short of killing her and she still tried coming onto my PC.
  I really hope that has been fixed.
  
  Bae'zel fucking me after I slaughtered the whole goblin camp was totally ok for her character.

- I never went to camp when they invited me to the party and the next time I saw everybody was in act 2. Did I miss a lot?
  
  Kind of sorta not really?
  It's a fun wrap-up to act 1 before you dive into the underdark or the mountain pass. It also serves as an important relationship set-up - it's where you're meant to establish who you want to romance, if anyone.
  But it's probably not required so
they've been tweaked? I started playing last week and I still feel like everyone is desperate for what's in my pants
- Maybe you just know how to charm people?

- How do I keep the bug? I like the horniness! There should be a switch in the options to enable extra horny.
God I wish I loved this game as much as I love the headlines it makes, but my max CHA archfey warlock failing every other persuasion roll just left a bad taste in my mouth.

  Yes, but on the way I tripped over a black cat and fell under a ladder onto a mirror, which then broke.
- It took me til halfway through Act 2 to realize you're supposed to click on roll bonuses like Guidance before rolling in order for them to be added to your total
  
  The fact that you didn't know this means you were not getting the guidance bonuses from the deity.
  If that happened to me in tabletop, I'd probably go knock over some tables at their respective chapel
  (Take it as in-lore and with good humor lol)
  
  To be fair, even with the bonuses, and karmic dice enabled, you can still end up rolling a 1 multiple times in a row.
  That's why I save on the roll screen before I toss the die. Go through inspiration/tools first. Then reload if I get fucked over. Because it just sucks failing a DC10 when you can only fail on a 1, since the game does not let you just take a 10.
- Disable karmic dice and save scum before you roll.
  
  The save scumming is what pulled me out of the game. :( Felt like I was meta gaming and I didn't want to do that in a D&D game.
My wife, a player since the early betas, was shocked that in the first 10 hours of playing after release I had already banged laezel despite my lack of interest in the romance aspect of the game.
This makes that make way more sense.

Aaaw, but I liked getting jumped by everybody immediately. Made those charisma points feel earned.
I've been watching a friend play and absolutely noticed that the romance stuff is a lot slower. everyone wanted to jump my wizard bones about 18 hours in, though it's very easy to just not flirt with them. Meanwhile she's 28 hours in and Shadowheart (who was trying to get me in bed with her in the first 10 hours of my play through) still hasn't propositioned her.
- Guess I missed out because 90 hours in and shadowheart just recently propositioned me despite us having a relationship for the last 80 hours lol. But Gale... I back out of him showing me a magic trick cuz it got too flirty, and now he thinks we boned.

I am pretty sure gale is still bugged. You can gain approval from him several times in a single conversation and he isn't even present for it. Everyone else has to be in your party in order to gain approval but gale apparently sees all.
It's almost a funny character trait that he is a horny dude. In one conversation you talk about him needing friends and if you say that you can be his friend he immediately hits on you. Buddy, if you didn't hit on everyone all the time then maybe you had more friends.

Yeah it felt like at that moment everyone was corrupted by Slaanesh. Was awkward just tryna forward my companion quests.
And here I thought I was just really good at character creation.

Funny, because the only character I'm trying to bone doesn't have any romantic dialogue, despite max approval.

My first character I tried to make, I was wandering around poking everything and getting into fights (and losing) while Shadowheart and the green woman who's name I can't remember how to spell follow me around being catty or outright hostile to each other.
The second character I started after I basically got stuck in a position where I couldn't advance, and every door our of the area I'm in was met with a "This is going to be bitterly hard for your sad weak little party" message on my first character. I spent some more time wandering around the crash site, which made me realize I needed to spend more time wandering around the crash site looking for people.
