Hexday 2024, Happy 4th year anniversary nerds!!! - New General Megathread for the 24th-26th of July 2024

On this day, 4 years ago the site was first launched (then a day later the first post made), Formed from chapotraphouse remnants, the old admins decided to make a site using Lemmy as its base. Originally called chapo.chat, Hexbear has grown into one of the biggest instances in the lemmyverse.

Despite various sitewide struggle sessions, wrecker incursions from other forums and federation drama, Hexbear has keep growing strong in its 4th year, now with 4 megathreads, over 4 million comments, 300k posts and much more.

Its being great running the general megathread for a bit over 3 years, since i took over i have tried to get it mostly in time and just one unlike during the old times, i like to think i have done a decent job, plus i have also added a bit of reading material to them so you nerds can learn from them and i like to think you have been reading them garcia-cock-shotty, its also nice to see the new megathreads how they have slowing grown up to the size to the old general mega in the time of the old admins.

dont have much else to say so have a good day nerd. also

  • If anyone is looking for some not bad Guy Talks About a Game For 6 Hours background noise, Duke of Whales has so far been solid, got hooked with a 2 hour video of the first Assassin's Creed and then saw the Assassin's Crew 2 episode is 6 dang hours, but the first one was solid, dude did outside historical research, mentions Gramsci and even mentions dialectics, it's nothing mind blowing but for the background noise about video games genre, it's damn good.

    • Does he call every Asscreed game dogshit? :>

      • Naw, he focuses almost entirely on the storytelling and has genuinely well thought out takes, it's a pretty chill vibe overall and critiques aren't made with much fanfare, it's pretty low key overall. From the review of the first game and an hour into the second, it's quite well done, if anything it's a shame he's wasting his time on a franchise that turned out to be a dry part, but he does mention that but does point of that the more esoteric plot elements were strong as hell.in AC1 and then fell off pretty steeply. The subject matter is dumb as hell, but he does give it a solid go as a genuine literary critique while meeting it at where it is, it's a ubisoft game and not Doestevsky at the end of the day and thar fact is acknowledged but it still does take a pretty scholarly look. He's not doing plot summaries.
